While the primary fleet is away, fresh-recruits are sent to investigate a distress call from an allied planet.
A reboot and alternate-timeline of the series. It's "good", but is also the bubblegum one ought to expect these days.

1:45 -- "Could this be Klingon" .. "Negative, you're 75,000 kilometres".. wait, how close?
- Funny that later they use "miles" to describe transporter range.
- 3:10 -- I definitely recognize that actor. Wasn't he in the terribad remake of Red State (2011)[doesn't exist]?
- I would have been calling for an evacuation preparation for non-essential personnel while walking to the shuttle, flying over and talking. That would give much more time for people to get away. Though getting away would be impossible if the Big Bad wanted to murder escapees.
- 6:30 -- 2233 04
- 7:15 -- Oh hey, I recognize that actor too. I can't place her at the moment, though.
- 9:00 -- Oh good, there's a flimsy reason the escapees could "get away". Do any of those craft have warp capability? Otherwise they'd be doomed.
- 11:15 -- Considering the pounding the ship took before the captain went over, I can't see how the ship fought for as long as it did.
- 11:30 -- I don't understand why ramming like that would have crippled the Big Bad like that. Hell, it's tilted.
- 12:00 -- Iowa, United States
- 12:40 -- Sabotage - (1994 song), by Beastie Boys
- 14:15 -- Is that a robot? Because that face looks like a robot's.
- 14:20 -- No it isn't. His name is Jim.
- 14:30 -- Vulcan (Star Trek)
- 15:00 -- I'm not going to attempt to link to any of those things.
- 16:00 -- I thought it was more than culture that had Vulcan's be like that. Their young were a bunch of dicks, which leads me to believe they have to learn to not be dicks, or they change over time. Therefore, it's not his fault to get angry.
- 16:30 -- Oh, so it's okay they are dicks.
- 18:45 -- Oh my god, that's the Soul Hunter, from Babylon 5 – (1994 show)!
- 19:45 -- This unshaved style doesn't suit a Vulcan.
- 20:15 -- Budweiser
- 20:45 -- Kirk is played by an ugly actor. It's distracting.
- 21:30 -- The manfolk must come to the rescue of the weak widdle woman.
-
23:30 -- No man is attached to a dad they never grew up with.
- Instead, it would be more reasonable to say that having had no man raising him, he went from being a baby to a broken kid to a broken adult.
- 24:45 -- Where did he get that little ship from?
- 26:00 -- "Nice ride." I know that actor. Wasn't he in .. fifth element? total recall? Damn, I can't place him.
- 27:45 -- A woman taking everything in a divorce settlement? I guess the matriarchy is still going strong in the future.
- 28:15 -- Three years later.
- 30:45 -- Gossip about duty? Sigh.
- 37:15 -- A woman manipulating a man to get what she wants? Never!
- 40:15 -- I could forgive all the artificially-epic lens flares earlier, but filming from behind glass here is really annoying.
-
42:30 -- That's racist.
- Also, they have universal translators. I'm pretty sure their computers could handle an accent.
- 47:15 -- How are things dinging off of their hull if they have their shields up?
- 51:15 -- What about Vulcan can be rescued? Even if it were their ship, I presume there are hundreds of millions of Vulcans.
-
53:45 -- Oh, I thought they would be sending a sabotage crew over to the Big Bad.
- Also, why wouldn't they detect the jumpers?
- 54:30 -- Couldn't they detect the transmission?
- 55:30 -- He was wearing red too.
- 55:45 -- Handy that the parachute can retract. Normally they would detach. It's reusable so they could jump from the thing if they blow it up. Except the redshirt got killed and had the explosives on him.
- 57:00 -- Kirk gets lifted up and thrown the wrong way. He could have been pitched off.
- 1:05:45 -- What do I need? Well you know that thing that you do with your tongue..
-
1:09:45 --
Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth. -- Arthur Conan Doyle, via his character Sherlock Holmes
- 1:11:30 -- The captain doesn't have the authority to have their first officer arrested under those circumstances.
- 1:11:45 -- What? Tossing him off? Seriously? They have a brig.
- 1:12:15 -- Wouldn't that escape pod have survival equipment? Equipment including gloves?
- 1:13:00 -- Oh, that equipment.
- 1:13:45 -- That old joke, from Star Wars 4 and probably much earlier.
-
1:14:00 -- Why would it pitch the other thing and then go after him? Scare him off, sure.
- Also, why would it be red? Is it not native?
- 1:14:45 -- Why does it still care about him?
- 1:19:45 -- So why did he fail? Was there some sort of timing that was screwed up? I don't understand. How could Nero know that he was being sent to help? If a drop of that red matter was needed, why not have multiple ships sent? If the red matter could be used to stop the spread of a black hole, then the other ships who would get there late could at least drop a curtain of black holes to save Romulus.
- 1:21:45 -- Hobgoblin
- 1:22:00 -- I assume Spock the elder knows about the base because it's next to Vulcan. How they know which way it is, is a bunch of hand-waiving.
- 1:28:45 -- Wouldn't a hell of a lot more water come out, and continue coming out?
- 1:33:00 -- He's looking straight at her tits.
-
1:35:15 -- Saturn, Titan (moon)
- Saturn has a magnetic field because of its rings? They are mostly ice. The planet's magnetic field is weaker than Earth's.
- 1:38:30 -- Why introduce this unexplained semi-relationship in this movie? It makes zero sense without a proper backstory. He's Vulcan. Why would any of this work like this?
- 1:40:45 -- While I can see Earth's automated defences being disabled, perhaps even their sensors and the like, but they would definitely have a planetary militia.
- 1:44:00 -- While I can let this get away with the large open area, I cannot imagine a ship-sized hole in their hull that doesn't let out some air. Some sort of shield-excuse should have been made.
- 1:55:00 -- Also donate some sperm.
- 1:57:00 -- Why is the doctor on the bridge?
-
1:58:00 -- HER ongoing mission? Sexism.
- This revisionism removes "man", indicating that people think females aren't human. It's removing perceived-sexism by being even more sexist. People are dumb.
