This is a followup to Bootloader hell.
I booted up and wanted to see what the default was. It booted and looked like PCLinuxOS, and then gave me the TinyME login. Maybe TinyME just didn't brand the bootup.
Networking didn't work, and restarting it didn't work:
# service network restart Shutting down loopback interface: [ OK ] FATAL:Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.26.8.tex3/modules.dep: No such file or directory Bringing up loopback interface: arping: socket: Address family not supported by protocol [ OK ] Bringing up interface eth0: forcedeth device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization. [FAILED] FATAL:Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.26.8.tex3/modules.dep: No such file or directory
Ok, so let's check things out again.
cd /lib/modules ln -s 2.6.18.8.tex6.lgc/ 2.6.26.8.tex3
And retry..
# service network restart Shutting down loopback interface: [ OK ] Bringing up loopback interface: arping: socket: Address family not supported by protocol [ OK ] Bringing up interface eth0: forcedeth device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization. [FAILED]
Checking out /boot
, ls -al
showed me that kernel.h was still wrong.
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 28 Apr 7 07:35 kernel.h -> /boot/kernel.h-2.6.26.8.tex3
And so I tried to fix it again..
rm kernel.h ln -s kernel.h-2.6.18.8.tex6.lgc kernel.h
Heck, let's rm kernel.h-2.6.26.8.tex3
since I have kernel.h-2.6.18.8.tex6.lgc
I also checked /etc/lil.conf
to see what was what. The lilo.conf
from this TinyME install on sda3 wouldn't be used, so I checked the lilo.conf from the recent PCLinuxOS sda1 install.
This was the default that I was currently booted into:
image=/boot/vmlinuz label="linux" root=/dev/sda3 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="acpi=on splash=silent" vga=788
/boot/initrd.img doesn't actually exist. Maybe this is an issue?
I remember PCLinuxOS remasters having an issue with their initrd for all remasters. Perhaps TinyME also has that issue. (//note to self: I have notes in 'no usb-storage found for kernel'`)
I bet I could copy the initrd from PCLinuxOS if I got something resembling 2.6.18.8.tex6.lgc installed first.
Well, let's try rebooting into TinyME again, and see what happens.
No change. kernel.h-2.6.26.8.tex3 even reappeared in /boot somehow!
The LILO that's in sda1's /etc/lilo.conf can't be right, because it's stuff is in a different order than what's written to my MBR.
I give up.
Continues with Lilo is better than Grub.
