For extremely cheap telephone service using VoIP, I have this device. Instead of having my computer on all the time, I have this box hooked up to my network. I then have a regular telephone plugged into it. Once configured, everything is magic.
I think I purchased mine from CanadaComputers - Cisco SPA122 on canadacomputers.com
- Can be customized.
- I think it can be disabled so only a handset can be used.
- Includes password management.
- Has a default guest account which should probably be deleted.
Other services which I don't use:
Cisco SPA122 setup with diamondcard.us ∞
The SPA122 is really overpowered for my needs. It's so very configurable that it's terribly confusing. Boy did it take me a lot of time to figure out how to get things working.. but once I did, it boiled down to these simple instructions..
Voice > Line 1
- Proxy[doesn't exist] and Registration
- Outbound Proxy:
Use Outbound Proxy:
Display Name: ANYTHING
- I recommend your telephone number.
- Password: YOUR_PASSWORD
User ID: YOUR_USERID
- Preferred Codec:
Second Preferred Codec:
I don't know how to enter this, but other stuff was ok by default:
maybe I don't need this sort of thing..
Use Auth ID: [yes] -- NOTE - switched to [no] even though Auth ID was blank for my success test.
