Ubuntu developed Upstart as their own init system, but dropped it. They will switch to systemd because Debian will.

Probably from mid to late 2010.

To fix Ubuntu's stupid cdrom://... Failed messages:

System > Administration > Update Manager

Click Settings in the left bottom corner, select the Ubuntu Software tab and from the Download from: dropdown, select Other....
