A heavily-modified World of Warcraft 3.3.5 private server which removes the concept of classes, allowing the player to pick-and-choose abilities to create their own unique character. Another server has a random selection-and-choice concept which is very fun.

Has various challenge modes and the ability to rework a character back to level one for a reward.

While lacking some bits and pieces of convenience, it’s really quite good. Has some expensive pay-to-win. [ 1 ] It’s ultimately not good because it has bonus experience available to all the players so there’s no actual authentic world, it’s just a bunch of overpowered characters smashing through everything; fail. Or play it single-player if you’d like..

Uses World of Warcraft 3 (WotLK) 3.3.5a addons. Releases between 2008-11-01 (WotLK) and 2010-12-01 (Cataclysm) are likely ideal.

So their announcement was for something that’s being released on the 11th, so I reinstalled to audit and consolidate all my characters in preparation.

  • Apparently old characters are sent to a ghetto free pick realm, so it’s all in one place now.
  • Apparently I forgot playing, because I had a number of highly-levelled characters, probably from being carried by the prestige zerg fests.
  • The client needs to have a setting changed: Turn off animations.

  • You can have beyond the maximum 10 characters by temporarily disabling unused ones:

  • Other features can be found in .chat or .chat list

  • The best low level elemental in Vanilla is the Befouled Water Elemental.

    • Level 23-25, Ashenvale, bottom-middle at the lake.

  • The best low level elemental in BC is the Fouled Water Spirit.

    • Level 18-19, Bloodmyst Isle, top-left at the lake.

2024-10-05 ∞

  • The launcher does not let me run it while streaming the download; that was promised.
  • Installing Addons during the installation process seems to freeze the launcher. I have to switch back to the Home section and wiggle the window around to see it again.
  • Clique is officially supported!!
  • Hit n then right-click on my ability and select reroll
  • Fucking hell, line of sight and range issues right awya.
  • I got to level 15 and it just gives me shit abilities and talents, and not enough rerolls to do anything decent. My bags are full of shit I can’t apply to my character. Ugh.

  • Uninstalled because:

    • The interface is absolute layers of ass. There is too much there, and it’s too inconsistently-placed, and everything is in hard-to-find places.
    • There are too many layers of meta which get in the way of actually playing – currencies upon currencies, scrolls, spells of various categories, talents, blah blah. It’s a mess. I played past level 20 because realising (in free pick) where talents even were; sad.
    • I have no idea how to get help from helpers. I just /1 and ask there. There are helpers, but I have no idea how to find them. No new player would have a clue they even exist.
    • Dungeons are a zerg fest, and are too easy.
    • Dungeon quests are fucked to get and turn in. It’s a vanity item and people run around with it so it can’t be used.
    • There are just too many layers of things to do and modify; it’s confusing as fuck.
    • Free pick is a shitshow of abilities, with no way to know when multiple abilities will displace one another (e.g. bear form vs righteous fury) or a spell will remove a form to cast. There needs to be some sort of trial where I can freely experiment before committing.
  • The uninstaller doesn’t remove all the game data.

I was able to give feedback through the mailing list:

The game is overwhelmingly meta. There is an abhorrent complexity to everything in the UI and number of “currencies” which aren’t tracked anywhere obvious. So many different panels and tabs and options and right-clicking for sub-menus, where everything is positioned differently.

It would be a part-time job just to figure all that out, but even if I did then I couldn’t play without building my own community of people who wouldn’t zerg dungeon finders with overpowered characters. There’s the killer; power-characters trivializing content and ruining it for everyone.

Also.. where are those helper players? I never did find that UI.

    • Alternately – Kui Nameplates – /knp – but I can’t turn off the highlight of the unit I’m selecting

2022-10-28 – Season 8 ∞

These also apply to my earlier play.

  • It has new taming, but there are no elementals, demons, etc. for new users to tame.

    • I managed to find a rather interesting demon fairly early on though, but I won’t spoil what it is.
  • Other people paying to win really makes it annoying.
  • The convenience items are incredibly overpowered.

  • There are way too many items that drop. It’s fucking annoying.

    • Season 8 – This is exacerbated by the transmog system, where I have to check if I have a transmog before rolling on it.
  • There is no Path of Exile – (2013 game)-style “ghetto league” where old characters from previous seasons can still be played in one combined league. This means everything I worked for is destroyed; why bother.
