Rescued from an unknown realm, a demon, raised as a monster-hunting government agent, faces his destiny and the destruction of the world.
A rather good movie, because it features a relatable and mortal character. The time of its release was not saturated with this genre, so it was gave a strong impression. Even re-watching it was entertaining. I think this will hold up very well over time.

A programming language.
Smalltalk is intriguing. Very intriguing. I was turned onto this while Ruby was a live project, where the rabbit hold led me to Seaside.
Smalltalk leads to Squeak, the open source implementation, and through one if its main contributors (Alan Kay) leads to the Croquet Project.
I'd need to re-watch this to add proper notes.

A highschool cheerleader, learning she is imbued with the spirit of the Vampire Slayer and her school was built on a Hellmouth, is trained by an ancient order of Watchers to fight vampires and other monsters from ending the world.
An astonishing series, and I don't say that lightly. The characters and story are outstanding. While this is a fast-and-loose show, it matures. It spinoff/partner series, Angel - (1999 TV show) is even more adult. This show is well worth the time, even if its initial episodes put the viewer off with its childishness. It's not a series that "grows on you", it really does get better and better, building upon and maturing out of its initial impressions.
Mandatory viewing.
See also Angel - (1999 TV show), which is set in this universe and shares significant-enough elements that crossover-viewing is largely considered mandatory. See Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel viewing order.

A man's fiancé is kidnapped, and he and his friend move to rescue her from what turns out to be ancient Chinese mystical forces.
A phenomenal movie. Fun and interesting. The acting is great, the story is great, the setting is great. I easily consider this mandatory viewing, and I think it holds up even after all these years.

Notes on various blues I had with it from back in the day.
I was using PCLinuxOS back then.
Updated in bits and pieces until 2008-09-07.

Smalltalk leads to Squeak, the open source implementation, and through one if its main contributors (Alan Kay) leads to the Croquet Project. I don't even know where to begin to describe this project. It's an open and programmable 3D environment designed for communication and collaboration. Or something. You have to see it to believe it. And maybe not even then.
