Minecraft - SmallLogo.altform-lightunplated_targetsize-256

A procedurally generated survival game with shitty graphics, which became popular because it was first-to-market and took advantage of nostalgia.

Unfortunately, Minecraft was never completed and the author fucked off with the money to make another game. Even with extraordinary success, the author didn't make good on promises and the game was never finished. (It would later be "finished" by having a recipe book concept and an "end"; neither of which are any good.)

I loved this game, and even bought it twice to support the developer, but because it was Java it would bring a computer to its knees. Being sold out to Microsoft (for their upcoming virtual reality stuff I'd bet) was bafflingly insulting.

I would try it again years later, and it hasn't had basic improvements.

A top-down action fighting semi-roleplaying game.

I played quite a bit of it until early 2015. Spiral Knights is an exceptional game, but unfortunately as of the last time I played it, it lacks balance and so it lacks variety.

This is an exception to Java sucks, therefore everything made with Java sucks.

There are free and open source implementations of Java, which I have limited experience with.

A BitTorrent client.

I used to love it, but it gave up Gnutella functionality so it's useless. I wonder if old versions are still good..

A general editor, although this page has notes on using the Ruby plugin from rubyjedit.org

While it's really cool to have autocompletion, I think the experience of using Kate with my simple modifications is far better than this crap. My next step up from that would have to be a proper IDE.

A telnet client.

It's Java, but explicitly uses Ruby as its internal language.

It works fairly well for what it is.. but it lacks some basic functionality, namely running a startup script and allowing scripts to set the internal state of the program. So I'm forced to manually load a savefile on startup, and forced to manually connect to a MUD.
