A combined first-person shooter and tower-defense game.

Seems pretty cute, but I hate tower defense games which have multiple entrances.

Build and expand a space-faring race who learns they are not alone in the universe.

Master of Orion - (1993 game) but with updated graphics and a confusing interface. I expect would have loved this in the past, but now it's just awkward. I'll still tag this as 'liked', as it's pretty good. It's very hard in the eyes. Take a lot of breaks.

Extremely stupidly hard.. and confusing. I'm shelving it. I only paid $12 USD for it, so it's not a big loss.. still, I wish the UI was better and the tutorial was better and the gameplay was better..

A freemium Minecraft clone with a number of improved features.

It's prettier but has a lot of pop-in. The two block-high jump and sliding movement are unsettling. It's nice to have a list of all crafting patterns, and searching is nice. Crafting is very nice with its previews.

Overall I'd say this is a good game and an appropriate drop-in replacement for people who like Minecraft.

A space simulator fps thingy.

While it looked quite good at a glance, when actually trying it it fell flat. When a game cannot lean on cutting-edge technology, it has to have solid gameplay. It didn't feel good at all to me. I guess No Man's Sky spoiled me.

A multiplayer, text, third-person shooter originally made for DOS, but I know it from Novell Netware.

I had a hell of a lot of fun with it. Perhaps it's nostalgia which makes me stay so fond of it, but I think the fundamental gameplay still holds up today. I could easily imagine a great updated version of this but I have and still do see this same gameplay in all sorts of other top-down games.

At best, my computer hangs when prompting for a password. I think this is related to the 4.4.14 kernel but have not confirmed this.

These instructions are a lot easier than they seem, and a smart and patient beginner will be able to follow them!

  • These notes were made from instructions from Slackware "current", as of 2016-11-05, and have been tested on Slackware 14.2, and 14.2 32bit.
  • These notes were made on an everyday system with one hard drive which I completely formatted for this purpose.

    • If you are a new user, it is strongly recommended that you remove all hard drive's your using and do this on a spare unused/empty drive.
  • This concept and these notes build a full-disk Slackware installation which also uses LVM. You can safely ignore the entire LVM post and just follow this one.
