A miniseries told around the Soviet Chernobyl disaster.

A tense, decently-paced look at how communist lies spell disaster, and how communism once again cost tens of thousands and almost tens of millions of lives.

A highly-virulent weaponized virus breaks containment and wreaks havoc.

It starts strong then goes downhill into some odd religious stuff. Generally terrible later on. Worth watching if you're into this genre.

An experimental gate technique strands unlikely survivors on an ancient ship.

A fair show. That's pretty much all I can say about it, really. It has some significant presentation of humans being human, which is rare and special.

Wow, this is really good. Great effects.

Orphan Black - (2013 show) image

An underclass punk, returning from a ten month flight from the country, happens upon a suicide that reveals that she is part of a larger picture.

The lead actor is particularly good, as is all the acting. The story is poor in a number of places, and it is particularly jarring to have literal-faggotry forced into it. I don't mind there happening to be gay characters, but when they're gay characters being gay because gayness yay gay gay as opposed to just being people who happen to be gay, it's so obvious and so insulting as to taint the whole fucking show.

I'll flag this as liked and lightly-recommended. It's really not all that awful, but it rubs me the wrong way. It's like girly science fiction drama-whatever.

Its first impression is that it's sort of Star Trek parody-thing, it quickly unfolds into its own unique space-adventure-drama.

Fantastic originality and mood. Recommended, rapidly approaching highly recommended.

Verdict: While it's good, it's not great, at least not for me. I got bored in the first couple of episodes of season two. Definitely recommended for anyone who enjoyed the first several episodes.

Like other shows these days, I became interested in this purely because "those people" "hate" it.

Ancient Relic - (2002 movie) image

Archaeologists discover an ancient body with impossible technologies, giving evidence of a time-traveling journalist.

Quite a good movie! With a three hour run time, it was an easy binge and one that strings together seamlessly. A great story, and while it has some storytelling moments, it has unforgiving realism for its characters.

It has only a couple of awkward "like it's totes real, yo" moments because of some characters, but thankfully it's well-balanced and is overall absent of religion aside from the major plot point.

A cop from an authoritarian future is caught up in a daring time-travel jail-break, to become stranded in present-day Vancouver Canada.

Overall this is adequate, but with several plot points and character traits which are difficult to believe. The biggest problem I have is the various brushes against citizen-terrorism apologetics. My takeaway is that this show is "safe", with some edginess fabricated for the kids.
