Technical specs and usage notes.

Non-backlit FTN liquid crystal LCD with several modes:

• CGA 640×200 4-shade greyscale.

  • (Hercules-compatible)

• Text mode monochrome:

  • 80×25
  • 64×18 (zoomed)
  • 40×16 (zoomed)

• The text modes may be swapped with fn-space and one may scroll the zoomed window with menu-cursor keys.
• ON / to invert the colours.
• ON = to shift annunciators (icons which appear when shift, fn, etc are pushed) left, right or off.
• ON * to change shades of grey
• ON - or ON - to change the contrast
• The screen won’t suffer from burn-in (think of LCD Watches)

• A commercial backlighting upgrade is available.

  • 2000-10 — I emailed Thaddeus Computing to learn that no progress had been made on backlighting. David Sargeant was doing experimentation with backlighting and film removal. Backliting wasn’t thought to be commercially feasible because the screen is difficult to replace and the new backlighting will wear out.
  • mode.com BW80 and mode.com CO80 (can improve readability).
