gettinther had issues with Splashy and so Unity Linux is returning to Bootsplash for the time being.
Plymouth (wiki, source) is something to keep an eye on in the future, but right now it doesn’t support all cards and especially not older hardware. Once Plymouth has its issues solved, it’ll be looked at again.
