Subject: Favorites of requested user are not public.

Since the YouTube built-in subscription feature fails hard when there
are many hundreds of active subscriptions, I want to replace it with
RSS feeds through Google Reader.
I’ve struggled for quite a long time trying to get users favourites to
also be subscribeable, and I finally figured it out.
So my issue/question is.. Why do these two URLs have different
permissions settings?
-
gdata.youtube.com/feeds/base/users/USERNAME/favorites
As I understand, the permissions issue is here:
TODO – figure out a new link: www.youtube.com/account#privacy/activity
But I *really* don’t want to have to convince hundreds of users to
change their privacy settings, to make “favorite a video” shared. I
don’t even know if that would work when recent activity is disabled.
If a user has allowed favourites to be viewed on their channel, then
the RSS feed should work. Period.
