Given a finite amount of time, only that which is most interesting is considered. This is efficient. This is also a lazy closed-minded efficiency.
If interest is unchanging; fixated on what is currently considered, awareness cannot broaden. Interest is not unchanging. Social trends, education and experience have interests wax, wane and change.
Interest only applies to that which enters awareness. That which is kept occult or obfuscated can be intentionally hidden.
Time and undirected interest is necessary to reveal the occult. Time and directed interest is necessary to reveal and learn the obfuscated.
Though some are interested learning itself, which counters the occult, or are irritated by obfuscation, the efficiency of focusing on interests works against revealing the obfuscated or learning the occult.
However, interests can be manipulated and time can be subjugated.
