Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kǎoshì (汉语水平考试, often simply HSK) is the People’s Republic of China‘s government-recognized spoken standard Chinese and written simplified Chinese proficiency test.
It’s broken into six levels, each having a new block of characters to learn.
With clear difficulty levels and government backing, it’s the clear model to use to learn the major language of China.
This is regarding the “Standard Chinese” language.
Pinyin uses a more romanized script.
