When raising a point, it’s essential for it to not have alternatives. Otherwise it doesn’t serve the argument.

This is a pretty straightforward way to dismiss essential point in many arguments for the existence of deities.

These are some pretty rough ideas that I wanted to at least get written down. I think they could easily be improved upon.

• I have a book which proves my particular god exists.

  • Ink on paper can prove something exists? Can it manifest something into reality?

• Lots of people believe god exists, therefore god exists.

  • Lots of people believing something manifests it into reality?
  • Lots of people believed the world was flat, and it actually was? Then there was a lie spread about it being round, and only when many people believed it was round did it actually become round?

• I know that god exists.

  • Everything you know is always true? You can’t be mistaken? How can you communicate your knowledge? How can I trust you to not lie? Personal testimony is by far the worst kind of evidence.

• I have personal conviction that god exists.

  • You can personally manifest things through the magic power of your conviction? Could you manifest a briefcase of money for me?

• I have an argument for the existence of god, but no evidence.

  • A particular assemblage of sounds, made into words, made into phrases, can validate the reality of something? The best you can do is some wacky detached version of deism.
