Introduction ∞
This is an attempt to describe some of the major “rules” which guys seem to flaunt but never fully know. In general, they appear, to practitioners, to be “universal”, but are really based on real-world logic.
Some of these concepts are merely derived from the alpha/beta male concepts created to keep order within a pack structure, where others are based on trial-and-error and the need to not make the same ‘mistake’ or take the same risk twice.
There are many kinds of guys and all sorts of situations, which is one reason why the rules don’t get recorded. A guy wouldn’t want to have to be bound by a recorded rule when they really want to justify, to themselves, the need to break it.
Pecking Order ∞
When two or more guys are attracted, they will privately call “dibs” on a woman. This is a process which tries to account for a number of things:
- Dibs
If the first guy on the scene calls it, he can vito any attraction any of his pack has.. calling dibs. First-come, first-served.
- Pecking order / Group seniority
In situations where more than one guy has an attraction and nobody has or can call dibs, then often members of a pack will back down to give seniority those who have a lengthier pack membership.
- Risk/Benefit
Often, a guy will back down if he simply does not feel up to the task and thinks that a buddy will have a better chance.
- The tiebreaker
Initial female input greatly helps sort out competition between guys in that such input will hilite which guy has the most potential for success and is therefore most qualified for persuit.
Strangely enough, guys will often ‘fight’ over a woman in subtle ways only to be completely overruled by a woman’s decision, even if it’s something subtle like a side-comment. Guys just want to pretend to be in control, but will accept being overruled by an “expert[doesn’t exist]“. (See fnord)
