re. the June 22, 2011 article Curse.com: Ad-On Woes
Their database has been compromised for a long time.
Shortly after changing my email address there, I started getting constant phishing attacks since then.
That was probably over a year ago now.
wtb: appearance tab.
And, ya know, some sort of variety with gear.
2011-06-18 - re. the Dungeon Journal ∞
This won't do anything to help people who don't know fights. Not. A. Thing.
This will be a tool for smart people to learn details about a fight without needing to look it up elsewhere. But it'll still be required to look everything up elsewhere.
So basically all that's being introduced is the listing of loot. Which will encourage more people to run specific instances only and to drop out when their desired loot doesn't drop.

Dungeon Finder - ilevels and level brackets ∞
reported, and it's since been solved
As I was levelling an alt, at 81 I was able to randomly queue in the two entry-level Cataclysm dungeons. (I believe also 82 but I could be wrong.) At 83, I became unable to do so.
- Open the dungeon finder
- Select "Random Cataclysm Dungeon" from the dropdown box
-
Click the "Find Group" button
I receive this message in chat:
You do not meet the requirements for the chosen dungeons.
It used to be required for a character to discover the entrance to a dungeon. Now it's linked to their level but with an item level requirement.
At 81, I have two dungeons I can queue (randomly or specifically) for:
- Blackrock Caverns
-
Throne of the Tides
At 83, I have four dungeons I can queue for:
- Blackrock Caverns
- Throne of the Tides
- The Stonecore
-
The Vortex Pinnacle
The two additional dungeons have an ilevel requirement of 272, which I do not meet.
That's not surprising, I'm wearing heirloom gear (complaining about how heirloom doesn't contribute to ilevel belongs elsewhere).
However, it's unexpected for a player to continually use the dungeon finder for random groups, then level and be unable.
At the moment, the dungeon finder is "working as intended" and this is more of an opinion on a feature. But this issue will easily confound a player and is experienced more as a "bug".
--
Rather than the current response when attempting to queue random, it would be less confusing to have the Random Cataclysm Dungeon option in the Dungeon Finder dropdown box be greyed out.
A solution would be to alter the random feature exclude dungeons which the character does not meet the requirements for, and silently let them queue randomly for the remaining dungeons.
--
I've experienced this on previous alts but didn't investigate it too hard, so this is perhaps an old annoyance. I apologize if it's been reported before, but I'm unable to perform a refined search on just the Bug Report forum.
removing duplicate experience listing ∞
On Second Thought, Take One Prisoner completed. Experience gained: 32750. Received 6 Gold, 20 Silver. You gain 32750 experience.
The "you gain" has a nice colour to it, but the "Experience gained" is the same colour as the rest of the text. I would prefer to keep the second listing but not the first.
However, when fiddling with the chat settings, I cannot do this.

A lot of the tooltips are vague, poorly-written or outright wrong. I think Blizzard likes this. Heck, I remember reading that tooltip issues are not considered bugs.
Breadcumb links are redirecting ∞
"New post breadcrumb links are redirecting"
When creating a new thread, I see the breadcumb navigation at the top of the page. Example:
I visit the website features forum and begin a new topic. The URL I am at is
us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/EXAMPLE/topic
I see these breadcrumb links:
World of Warcraft > Forums > Website Feedback > Website Features > New Topic
When I hover over "Website Feedback" I see this URL
us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/EXAMPLE/
When I click that link it instead brings me to
us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/
When I view this post, and I hover over "Website Feedback", I
1) See this URL:
us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/#forumEXAMPLE
2) See a dropdown menu.
Clicking the main "Website Feedback" link takes me to the main forum page. It should instead do nothing, requiring me to choose one of the two options in the dropdown menu.
Use the default browser ∞
Using the default browser? Respecting the user's preferences?! Shocking!
I don't have IE in my installation, and the launcher is semi-broken.
Using fundamentally and intentionally insecure functionality should be avoided.
But that's just me.
View My Posts ∞
This is largely a Website Features issue, but it may step into the realm of a bug report so it's going here.
The most important part of any forum is the continuation of conversations.
The only way to facilitate that is to
- Notify people when there is activity on threads relevant to them.
- Make it easy to see that list of activity.
- Make it easy to prioritize that list of activity.
-
Make it easy to reply.
I came over here to write a post asking how I can find my own posts. This used to be an obscure feature of the previous version of the forum. Now it seems to be completely gone.
The only thing I can find is when I reply to a random thread, I can see my post. On the left is my portrait (with my ugly ugly shoulder pads). I can click on my name and see a dropdown. One of the icons is "View my posts".
---
First, while this is a good place to have this functionality, and have this functionality right there, this seems to be the only place to find it!
It should be the biggest most obvious feature in the entire forum.
us.battle.net/wow/en/search?f=post&a=CHARACTER%40SERVER&s=time
Second, this functionality doesn't seem to actually work. I'm big on things actually working. Especially when a thing is the very most important feature.
On my first attempt, it would just patiently attempt to load and do nothing. I tried a couple more times and it would eventually bring me to a search page.
Doing some research, it seems that there have been known issues with searching:
us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1220073099
(deleted thread)
Is the "view my posts" functionality a known issue?
If it's known, once the site is re-indexed, will this functionality work as expected?

- We need larger and uglier dragon mounts.
-
Will all hot fix notes be combined and added into the patch notes?
- There are a number of game changing things which happened and are buried as hot fixes.
ranting ∞
Phasing was a horrible experience for me.
An interesting concept, sure. An involving one, sure. It was very nice to be a part of events.
But.. It. Does. Not. Work.
I went through a lot of this in a very nasty broken way with my main. With this alt the starting area. The _STARTING AREA_ was a very nasty experience for me.
If I were a starting player, I would be turned off by all of my experiences on two characters leveling through all of these phased quests.
I agree with earlier posters that phased-questing often feels like we're being punished for completing quests.
Even if phasing and phase-related quests were actually fixed, various Worgen starting area phases remove a character from basic resources like a rest spot, mailbox, store and trainer.
Also, various phases are just "all interactive stuff has been removed from everywhere else but here" which isn't necessary. I can understand people migrating. That's kindof cool for unimportant NPCs, but when the wildlife vanishes it's quite strange. Yes, I spent hours running around before and after phase shifts, confused at why everything was completely empty or why there were invisible barriers or stupid blocking-terrain.
Yes, I managed to do some really crazy things like getting into areas I probably shouldn't have been in, breaking quests and I even completed the Worgen quest chain and "escaped" to the real world without learning how to turn into a human. That functionality was snuck in quietly after the fact, through one of the "hidden hot fixes".
A HUGE amount of Cataclysm oozes with the incompleteness the Blizzard drop-features-to-kick-it-out-the-door policy has implemented. I have found so many broken or ugly quests it's .. a facepalm.
The hotfix system and hidden patches are an insult. Seriously, you guys have snuck in changes without reporting them, and the hotfix blogs are a very out-of-the-way way to "publicly announce" changes. When will the hotfix notes be announced properly like patch notes?
The way patches roll up a bunch of changes is unnecessary. A number of changes can and should be done as immediately as possible. Many patch changes are a trivial mechanic change and should not be held back for weeks to make a patch more impressive. I can understand this as being part of a process, but it's a very bad process to let known oddities about the game go unfixed because they must be inserted into a patch weeks or months later.
Back to questing. I was really enjoying myself with the questing, up until I started doing quest chains which were so very obviously unethical. Yes, I suppose I could set aside the
- "go murder x innocent y" and
- "go steal x number of y" and possibly even the
-
"go murder w innocent x and butcher them into little bloody pieces with your bare hands and take their y body part"
.. type quests, but when a quest is about negotiating peace with natives, then trying to trick them with fake gold, then MURDERING THEM FOR THEIR OIL. My jaw just dropped. I stopped doing Goblin and Gnome quests because of that. I won't interact with those NPCs.
There are many cases when I regret completing a quest and I'd jump through hoops to undo a turnin. Becoming a bastard bad guy to npcs I really like, because of the linear nature of the questing, is one of those things that makes me grind my teeth.
Still charging for TBC ∞
It's not like copying data is easy, or tossing data onto a cd is cheap, or allowing a digital download is cheap and easy.
Oh wait.
So it's to help pay for all the technical support and other resources. Urr, are we getting more now that we have three expansions? Nope, so it must be to back-pay for all of the expenses for making the expansion.
Or, you know, for profit.
Yay capitalism!
On XP capping (to level) ∞
Capping is too annoying. Run back to Stormwind (try doing that at level 10) and pay for it (again, try doing that as a lowbie).
It should be like /pvp
with some sort of /xp
with a popup [ok/cancel]
to confirm.
I usually just goof around exploring when I begin to outlevel stuff. It was VERY annoying to outlevel an area before I was done with it. It really watered down the experience of all that new content.
Also, my wandering through quest chains backwards by entering into a zone "on the wrong side" probably didn't help either.
Have special "tank free" instances ∞
Which involve:
- The DPS all hitting a target dummy
- There is random damage spit out for no particular reason
- There is an "enrage timer" after which everyone just drops dead
- There is occasional fire on the ground requiring some movement
-
Maybe occasional adds run through, for kiting or burning down or some such
You know, like a raid.
re. (Lost City) Standing on the gator Statue. ∞
It gives an advantage, so it's mandatory to use it.
It's not an exploit. It's an obvious tactic made possible by a combination of bad terrain design and evasion mechanics.
- Terrain design:
Whatever terrain design software that's being used should have a trivial mode that colours ground in two different ways.
- Flat ground / slopes.
-
Ground requiring one jump to get to.
Mounted jumping shouldn't let a person go higher.
The modeller hops up onto a higher plateau and can then see areas that require walking (colour 1) and jumping (colour 2).
- Evasion mechanics:
If everybody uses it, doesn't Blizzard know about it? Isn't there some sort of "evasion log" report that's automatically generated? That'd be something I'd implement.
Evasion should be calculated for all incoming damage and not only for has threat.
"Useless spells" ∞
Mind vision is useful in one instance in one area where I like to mark a patrol. But that's about it.
I also like using it on "blind" mobs. lawl.
---
I use Fade all the time. Anyone who thinks it's useless isn't using it properly.
And yes I do agree that it's a retarded mechanic.
2011-01-29 ∞
In my guild, I have been in the number one Guild Activity position for some time.
I am a lazy bum. I absolutely contribute less than a large number of others. I do three dailies and maybe a heroic or two. I raid just as much as the next guildie. I have no achievement points.
Whatever this number is, it was pulled out of thin air and only fosters confusion and feelings of inadequacy in everyone.
Guild Activity is broken. Very broken. Where is the official documentation detailing exactly how this number is calculated?
In normal development, there is a process of justifying the creation of a feature before spending/wasting development resources on it. I'd like to see that information.

Priest CC ∞
priests can ONLY Mind Control humanoids, and shackle undead?
Let me see.
I can shackle one undead, glyphed-cower-bomb a group, Mind Control a humanoid, and have it off-tank another mob.
All at the same time.
Well, I can also drop a cardboard assassin.. but that's another story.
If you're asking this because you're a tank and you're marking for cc.. then stop. DPS should be stepping up, marking for themselves and offering their suggestions on pulls. I'm sick of lazy dps and we need to stop spoon-feeding them.
Cataclysm leveling experience ∞
When I was levelling I wanted to go check out a specific area.. and I ended up being stranded in the middle of nowhere, running through parts of quest chains *backwards* through multiple areas. It's a slap in the face to complete some quests and be given a free ride *to where I just walked from*.
I was forced to hoof it across an entire continent, including navigating around rifts and swimming through inland lakes, to get back to civilization.
It was the biggest pain in the butt and clearly demonstrated how unfinished the expansion is.
2011-01-11 - On Engineering ∞
I was unable to find any other posts on this, so here goes..
I have max engineering, and I have to pay extra to repair with my Jeeves. Why?
- Repairing with your own bot should be the exalted (minimum) cost.
-
Repairing with another bot should be based on your engineering. The higher the cheaper.
If Jeeves sent me out on strange daily quests I might consider that, but knowing how things have gone already, it would require me to make tackleboxes and epic guns as turnins.
Also, fix engineering. Kthx:

Please let me turn off shoulders. And the head, back and shoulders of others. kthx.
On cutscenes ∞
Cutscenes are a waste of development resources that would be better spent on gameplay.
But shiny shiny things attract new players, which is the foundation of a healthy business.
On player housing ∞
I don't want to see player housing. I will go out and flog kittens if this happens.
Blizzard will not ever implement player housing.
Why? For the same reasons that people get shoved into the main cities.. to have some life clearly visible in the game. It's important for new players to see a large and active player base.
2010-12-23 - on Engineering ∞
TL;DR:
1) Are the Electrostatic Condensor proc rates too low to justify forcing engineers to have a gathering profession?
2) I want moting!
3) Where's the fun at?
---
I'm leveling my mining, and I'm at the point when I want Volatile Air (why oh why would that be a required ingredient in the first place?).
"I can just go around moting, sweet!"
Uh, wait what. We don't mote anymore? Ok, there's another thingy for that. Uh, the Electrostatic Condenser works for other gathering professions.
Well damn, I wanted to have Alchemy. Good thing I started trade skills at end level (since Engineering is worthless until end g.. ok well since it's only fun wh.. ok well since leveling is a stronger priority before trade skills are, for me).
So I guess this means I'm forced to have a gathering profession too? To me, that sounds less like fun and more like work. I thought engineering was supposed to be mostly useless but lots of fun.. so far I haven't seen anything fun or useful.
Well, most professions have bunches of worthless stuff. At least Alchemy would be useful and would distract me from the inherent uselessness of Engineering, letting me focus on the fun parts of Engineering. Wherever they are.. I haven't actually seen anything interesting yet, maybe with pattern drops?
I hear that the drop rate on volatile air is so crappy that maybe I shouldn't bother with a gathering profession anyways?
I didn't really research all of the patterns and nuances before diving right into Engineering. I guess it's my fault bumping into all these oddities. But then again, players shouldn't need to have to get to the end of the road to learn all these things. I suppose this is "working as intended", since it's up there with talents only being useful for abilities that won't be attained for dozens of levels.
So now I'm at the point when I've spent so much time and money on Engineering that it's a point of honour to not turn back. It's still hilarious (and hopefully disturbing) to have a healer with engineering. I have to laugh so I don't cry.
Engineering being awkwardly useless and expensive? It's always been like that, so I suppose I'll live with it until some magic developer wand gets waived (next expansion?). But seriously, having my other profession dictated by Engineering? That's just mean.
