Paying attention.
Mindfulness may be thought of as a type of meditation, although I tend to think of it as transcending it, possibly even being the goal/reward of meditation.

I use the term mindfulness for what I do. Instead of continually fighting the thoughts in my mind to keep it empty, I relax and let my thoughts Flow, while concentrating on something or just relaxing and enjoying the view.
I don't purport to believe in, or even understand, the concepts used by others.
Mindfulness may be considered a barrier to naturalness. I.e. the quality of being natural may be considered something which cannot be directly sought but only peripherally pursued as with ideas like The Alexander Technique's "conscious de-control".
