Systemd is reported to be optional, but I don't have information on that.
My past experiences were dismal enough that I don't want to bother trying Gentoo again.
2008-04-16 - 2008.0 minimal install CD ∞
Still has the clumsy documentation, terribly cut-and-paste instructions and oldschool feel.
Doesn't work, I get a complaint that proc is already mounted.
After all these years, Gentoo still hasn't gotten around to either simple instructions or an installer.
Even though I'm an everyday system, like 90% of the people out there, Gentoo still forces me through its amazingly poorly-written-yet-thorough documentation.
Some bits of the documentation are still very vague. Wow.
shift-click-drag to highlight at the console, to be able to copy-and-paste.
but first you must chroot into that setup!
Holy crap, it's seriously making me compile a kernel? Wow, oldschool.
Oops, I read in order, and I didn't know about genkernel.
Hey, I can emerge two things at the same time. Sweet.
I decided to install vixie-cron
useradd -m -G users,audio,cdrom,floppy,games,usb,plugdev,video,wheel -s /bin/bash user
useradd: invalid numeric argument 'games'
useradd -m -G users,wheel,audio -s /bin/bash user
Supposedly a "livecd" install but really it's a horrible hoax of an installer. This involves reading an install guide and switching back and forth from it and another terminal to manually type in the stuff which a simple script could handle. It'd be nice if it worked.. if it contained some defaults to get people up and running, etc.
Source-based. Technical and clumsy.
