Characters which I frequent:

  • Gnome, Warlock, Engineer, Jewelcrafter
  • Draenei, Shaman, Skinner, Miner

  • Blood Elf, Paladin, something, something…

So this list will be maintained according to those needs. If you wish to recommend something else, please do though. I can maintain separate lists for other combinations of AddOns. I cannot, however, keep any combination of race-class-profession up-to-date since I can’t really properly continuously-test those other AddOns.}}

This was prompted by the 2007-11-27 patch day and the heavier use of Ace via WowAceUpdater.

Addons I am using ∞

Cosmos was updated on 2007-11-30.
Ace was updated using the WowAceUpdater on 2007-11-30.
Everything else was re-checked by hand on 2007-11-22.

Essential: Used frequently and fundamental to gameplay ∞

Significant functionality improvements, Knowledgebase, Automation, etc.

  • [http://www.cosmosui.org/] Cosmos — various AddOns, see the main Cosmos topic for more details.

    • This is being phased out as soon as possible, because I disagree with the packaging philosophy and general presentation of things.

  • (Ace) [http://www.wowace.com/wiki/ACP ACP] (Ace Control Panel) — adds the “Addons” button to the game’s main menu. It allows you to manage your addons in-game.

    • But it doesn’t have a search/filter feature. =(

  • Unit Frames Replacements:

    • (Ace) StellarBars /stellarbars — Instead of a complete replacement this is a modification to the standard Unit Frames. Does out of range colouring and the display of XP.

    • ALSO: Cosmos has a nice UnitFrames replacement, and check out Archaeologist for all kinds of good features. Currently bugged for XP display but that’s minor. Also has PartyCastingBars to see what your party is casting.

      • Issues with my pet’s debuffs appearing twice. Probably a configuration thing.
    • backup?: [http://wow.aspide.it/ AlarTTFrame] /ATT gui — Shows your target of target in a nice way. But it’s a bit of a duplication and I can’t remember how to turn off the mini TOT that I have. I won’t use it because it has a big space-wasting notifier of the class/race of the person targetted. Fooey.
    • backup?: (Ace) [http://www.wowace.com/wiki/StellarUF StellarUF] /stellaruf — UnitFrames replacement. Too small, too odd. Doesn’t display the voice chat stuff. Handles the flight timer nicely. It just seems awkward to me, and using it messed me up so often so I stopped using it. It does a nice cooldown timer.

  • Cooldown Timer

    • Wherever it came from (Cosmos?) Quartz is nice for cooldown bars. I’m using it now. It uses the cooldown timer from whatever flight helper to display a flight cooldown.

  • (Ace) ClosetGnome, ClosetGnome_Fishing, ClosetGnome_Zone – requires: ItemBonusLib — For automatic eq swapping.. could be essential.

  • [http://wowui.incgamers.com/?p=mod&m=2092 Advanced Trade Skill Window] — Replacement tradeskill window to help automate item manufacture. Stop worrying about what requirements need to be made to make what. It also understands what’s on your alts too, I think. It needs way more time for me to play with before I understand it well.

    • Seems to have intermittent issues with your skills.. not doing anything at all when you try to create items. It’s a usability issue and somewhat of a bug. Just keep clicking buttons or abort the window and tray again..

    • Simple waypoints. Could be replaced if I found something that works well.

    • NOW I can actually remember where stuff is. The only additional enhancement I could think of would be PROPER maps and not just notes over the default garbage ones. It should note POI when flying over places. =/

    • Informs your other party members of your quest status. Looks very handy. The maintainer isn’t the original author I don’t think, and he doesn’t speak English (German native speaker) so speak simply!

  • [http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/638/ FlightMap] v2.2-1 /flightmap — Flight timer and path helper. Also shows some stellar icons on the mini and world maps. Just awesome.

    • The flight bar should count DOWN, not up. =/ If using Quartz, check its settings and set flight to ‘deplete’.

    • Also has some general chat-channel customization. There seems to be a lot of overlap with chat adddons.

Known bugs with the AddOns I use ∞

as of 2007-11-16

experience-related: attempt to concatenate field ‘prefix’ (a nil value) ∞

As of 2007-11-30 the error is silently trapped but XP doesn’t change, so this hasn’t been fixed. =(

symptoms:

  • hovering the mouse over the experience/reputation bars gives an error
  • the XP/reputation value will never change

  • gives an error after every fight

The error is:

Error: attempt to concatenate field ‘prefix’ (a nil value)
File: Interface\FrameXML\TextStatusBar.lua
Line: 64
Count: 1

Workaround: disable this feature in the Archaeologist AddOn:

  1. escape, and visit Khaos Configure
  2. Under Frames, choose Archaeologist
  3. Scroll down this stupid-huge list of options. Find “Experience & Reputation Bars”

  4. Remove all checkboxes from this section.

  • Remove the Khaos Configure minimap icon (from Cosmos) — I have NO idea how.

  • Add back the mouseover delay when hovering over stuff.

    • Or it would, if I could figure out how to properly maintain quest notes. Check/ask for help.

    • But it’s not being updated properly by the original author.
    • obsoletes MapNotes, maybe. I can’t figure out how to import mapnotes.
    • obsoletes FlightMap, maybe.

    • Has a fair waypoint arrow.

Some kind of totem timer ∞

    • Tacky wood paneling with the timers which apparently cannot be removed. Sigh.

    • Seems to share some code with WFtotem.
    • As of 2007-11-27 I could see no way to disable its button bar feature and only use the totem timers.

    • /wftotem x -900 ; /wftotem y -200 — this can show it, but actually casting a totem does nothing.

Troubleshooting ∞

Frequent error messages ∞

A possible solution:

Log into the game – hit Esc – hit Interface – under the Display section, uncheck the “Display Lua errors” box.

This doesn’t seem to work. You might have to resort to disabling the offending AddOn, or disabling some of its features, if you can guess what AddOn is causing the trouble.

A workaround:

Use [http://wowacereview.wordpress.com/addons/misc/bugsack/ BugSack] to trap and hide errors. Remember to configure this addon to stfu with that stupid sound it plays.

Remember that this just hides your errors so .. your addons might explode or do other truly awful things.

(old) Multi-casting makes lighting bolts disappear ∞

My visual glitch with the Shaman:

  1. At maximum instant spell range (20?)
  2. Send a lightning bolt, and as soon as possible,

  3. press ‘t’ to begin combat, and immediately send an instant spell

It would have to be reproduced again, all addons nuked and then re-tested. Ugh.

I may never be able to reproduce this since I’m using new spells and such.
