World of Warcraft recommended addons >
Starting to removing the reliance on curse.com, because their updater is not trustworthy.

NOTE: I have these characters:
- Gnome, Warlock (affliction-dps), Engineering (375+), Jewelcrafting (374)
- Draenei, Shaman (restoration-healer), Skinning (375), Leatherworking (Dragonscale, 375)
- (low level) Blood Elf, Paladin (protection-tank), Enchanting (low), Jewelcrafting (low)
- (low level) Elf, Druid (feral-dps), Herbalism (low), Alchemy (low)
-
(mid level) Human, Mage (frost-dps), Enchanter (mid-high), Tailor (low-mod)
So this list will be maintained according to those needs. Make suggestions if you wish, but I cannot keep any other combination of race-class-profession up-to-date since I can't really properly continuously-test those other AddOns.
Chatter ∞
I need to write instructions for configuring most of these AddOns still, but it's getting better.
Installing these addons from scratch ∞
These steps will start you from scratch, as though you had a completely new installation of WoW.
If you want to guarantee that you have the same stuff that I do, this is the easiest way to go.
If you're more of a power user, of course you'd completely bypass these steps. =)
Updating these addons ∞
It's a good idea to back up your Cache, Interface and WTF folders before running an update.
- Ace AddOns
- Run the WowAceUpdater
-
press F10. Give it some time and it'll refresh itself. It won't tell you when it's done. When it says 'Ready...' at the bottom, then you can exit it.
- Curse AddOns
-
TO BE REPLACED
- Other AddOns
- Visit the AddOn's page to learn if there is a new version
- Download the new version
- Unzip it in a temporary place
- Look at the list of folders you've created. In your AddOns folder, delete any matching folder names. You will not be deleting the preferences for the AddOn, don't worry.
-
Move the folder into your AddOns folder.
AddOns ∞
I had to break up this tall page into multiple sections due to some kind of strange limitation I found. It could be in my server, in Firefox or in the MediaWiki software.
- /ace-installable addons
- /curse-installable addons -- Unfortunately I have to redo this section from scratch. The curse.com updater client is UNTRUSTWORTHY and is a privacy and security risk.
Configuration ∞
See /configuration
Troubleshooting ∞
See /troubleshooting
If in doubt, restore your Cache, Interface and WTF folders.
You did back them up, right?
ace-installable addons ∞
Ace addons ∞
Ace is the preferred packager of choice because if it's ease of installation and maintenance.
Unfortunately, Ace doesn't have a feature to let you import a list of AddOns for it to install, so you're going doing that part manually. It's still better in the long run for easily updating them all.
Note that curse.com has https://web.archive.org/web/20090706084846/http://aceaddons.curse.com:80/ but it can be safely ignored.

Cartographer and its companion addons.
- {{orange|It paints pink circles overtop of more useful icons, hiding them.}} To repair this, overwrite AddOns\Cartographer\Cartographer_Notes\Artwork\TrackCircle.tga with a transparent .tga file (I got one from [http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/9496/ Cartographer Complete]'s NoTrackIconPtch v3.3). Problems: You have to do this every time you update Cartographer. The circles are gone, but your other more useful icon is still overwritten. ([http://jira.wowace.com/browse/CART-396 bug report])
-
don't install 'cartographer_routes', because it's outdated and not supported any longer.

CombatDND /combatdnd (but there are no options) -- Sets the DND flag when in combat.

Strangely, this addon is also a backup as a combat notifier, but since I already have banzai I wish I could squelch the text this spits out. =(
-
-
[http://wowace.com/wiki/ErrorMonster ErrorMonster] /errormonster -- Removes the stupid/nonessential error messages. So far, I've added these:

-
-
[http://wowace.com/wiki/MrPlow MrPlow] /mrplow (try /mrplow theworks) -- Automates the organization or stack-compression of items in your inventory and/or bank.
- It would be nice if it only sorted _some_ of my bags, since those were combined into one.. and the others are for keepsakes which I don't want shuffled around.
-
It doesn't work with the bank, but there's no alternative that I know of yet.
-
[http://files.wowace.com/cat-map.html Nauticus] -- Shows the arrival and departure times of boats.
-
[http://files.wowace.com/RicoMiniMap/] [http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info5686-RicoMiniMap.html RicoMiniMap] /rmm
- Better than SimpleMiniMap because I can add QuickMapNotes to the minimap, and also it displays the MapNotes icons. Worse than SimpleMiniMap because the border is heavier and the compasspoints are displayed.
- one day this can be obsoleted by [http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/8805/ Bongos Skinned Map]
- drag it out to the left a bit.
-
right-click to get the menu >

- shape > square
- scale > click on the number, type 100 and press enter.
- zone text location > click on the number, type -6 and press enter.

curse-installable addons ∞
The curse.com AddOn updater ∞
- new shiny notes:
- 2008-05-26 - It automatically updated without my permission. It re-installed the curse profiler. This program is now flagged as UNTRUSTWORTHY. It is a definite privacy and security risk. Now I've got to use other tools and also switch to another AddOn website.
-
2008-05-19 - The client updated itself and it decided to install [http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/4027/ Curse Profiler] automatically. How horrible.
- old ugly notes:
Some other AddOns mysteriously appeared in the list. I didn't select any externals or dependencies to get added.. odd.
Note: Direct download is possible like: psyn://services.curse.com/client/install.xml?id=NUMBER but I cannot paste these links here, because they won't be recognized by MediaWiki. Firefox could be updated to allow me to type in something like 'curse #' which might work..
Bugged: The errors are gone, but you may have to uninstall within curse then delete the folder then reinstall in order for things to work normally again.
If curse is not available, it'll screw up in all kinds of ways, like pretending to install and then doing nothing.. then when curse is backup it'll continue to think it's installed and won't update it.
It seems to be inept at knowing when there is an update, and refuses to update an app even when I can see by the website that it's been updated.
For the client to update itself, you have to manually go to C:\Program Files\Curse\ and run CurseClient.exe yourself. It won't work from a shortcut. Bad programmers!

[http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/4784/] Outfitter -- For equipment sets and auto-swapping. It even suggests kits for certain purposes (like dps vs healing). Does automatic trinket-cycling, but it doesn't seem to work the way I expect since unequipping some trinkets on cooldown will disable their power. - configuration: Set up a few suits. Enable hotkeys for them. Then go into your hotkey manager (in Khaos Configure) and assign keys. I reassigned control-1 through 0 for suits 1-10 so I can manually swap suits with hotkeys. When using hotkeys it does say what you're swapping to.
