An English interface. This might have been just an English modification of the original stuff or a whole new distribution. I’m fuzzy on that.
- Afterwards, I probably used cacko.
-
This was my very first Zaurus distribution. I used it to give myself an English interface.

- Power down the Zaurus and remove all power sources (no AC adaptor and remove the battery!).
- Set the battery switch to the “Offen” position and wait for at least 5 seconds.
- Connect the AC adaptor and put back the battery.
- Hold down the [D] and [M] keys and set the battery switch back to “Betrieb” (while keys are pressed!).
-
After a short moment the diagnostics menu should appear.
- If not, try it again and this time hold down the [D] and [M] keys before you restore the power (AC adaptor / battery).
- Insert the CF card in the Zaurus
-
Choose “Backup Menu” and then “Flash RESTORE” on page 3 of the diag menu.
The restore will take some time, so please be patient.
Thoughts ∞
-
The video player couldn’t play a random MP4 that I had.
- I don’t know what formats were supported.
-
The mp3 player
- Automagically uses the external music dongle thing which I have.
- Is awkward in a bunch of places.
– Can’t use one’s finger on the screen because buttons are unnecessarily small.
– .. other stuff I didn’t think to note and can’t remember offhand.
