They could alternately be called metal or “alternative rock”, whatever the fuck that means.

My favourite songs are more ambient/atmospheric or focus strongly on Anneke van Giersbergen‘s strong vocals.

My introduction to The Gathering was through hearing their song Liberty Bell on KnuckleTracks XII (12) – (1999 CD).

Lacuna Coil used to open for The Gathering, and the final time I saw them in concert, when Anneke was leaving the band, The Gathering opened for Lacuna Coil and their final song was Liberty Bell.
