I have conversations with random people, many of whom inspire me enough to write blog-length responses.
I want to free ideas stranded in email. To do that, I write them into a blog post. Sometimes I do this well after the fact.
So by way of a disclaimer and explanation..
There are two kinds of people I talk to.
- People who are smarter than me.
-
People who I want to help.
Whoever I may be in email conversation with, my writing is always with a tone that feels like #2. I talk with smart people and respond like I'm tutoring. This isn't some perception of my audience. I always write as if explaining.
My writing tone is not intended to be condescending; it's my style. In fact, I don't even "learn" like a typical person. I always "learn" by "teaching myself". All knowledge that gets to me goes through a sort of process where a part of me takes it and stores it as something which can get back out.
I can probably teach everything I learn and everything I know.
- Credit
I don't consider any of my ideas to be particularly original and I have no particular desire to either have credit or take it from someone else. I'm pleased to give credit it where it's due. I like to give credit to stuff I copy-paste unless the original is a forgotten comment in some nook on the internet and I heavily improve on it.
