Preparation ∞
-
Format a large-sized CF as FAT32
- No, this cannot go on an SD card due to technical limitations.
- Copy the weexpc installation contents to the root of your CF card.
-
Perform a NAND restore (no battery,
D+Mand insert cable)- I strongly recommend this, just so you’re starting from a fresh slate.
Installation steps ∞
Correct for the weeXpc 1.7 final release.
Step one – pdaXrom installation ∞
-
Perform a Flash update (Battery and power in, hold OK and press power. Option 4.) – I get an odd delay when booting up. Just wait.
- select option 3: NAND Flash Utils
- select option 3: Fix loader 64MB limit
— After this step, I like to hold ‘ok’ as it’s rebooting.

Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Once the info is given, walk away and let weeXpc install itself. It will take 30-90 minutes.
- Ignore any warning messages, like
tar: Removing leading '/' from member names
-
Once the installation is complete, press enter to reboot and have it automatically continue the install.
- Follow the SD-preparation steps. Use a 2GB+ card. Do not use an SDHC card.
— I purchased a great SanDisk card from Hermocom. - Ignore the “is in the future” warnings which tar generates.
- This step takes quite a while, and does not display any kind of progress.
- There are several more steps you need to jump through, to prepare the SD card and such. Just say yes a lot. =)

Once the installation is complete, press enter to reboot.

Troubleshooting ∞
during the pdaXrom installation ∞
after either of the two flash updates, cannot type anything ∞
The blue install screen is seen, but you cannot cursor or press enter to select options. The cursor is on ‘OK’ but blinks slower than usual.
Just wait a minute and it will begin to work again.
during the weeXpc installation ∞
it gives “tar: Bad tar header, skipping” and stops ∞
/mnt/cf/weexpc_install.sh aborts with:
tar: Bad tar header, skipping ... tar: Bad tar header, skipping tScript done, file is /mnt/cf/WEEXPC_INSTALL.LOG
The files on your CompactFlash card were not copied successfully. Try it again and listen for odd noises from your DVD drive. When I originally copied my files, my DVD sounded like it was thrashing around in my computer. The second time I re-copied the files it sounded very calm.
after the emergency boot procedure, after seeing the prompt, cannot type anything ∞
Wait a few minutes, until you see the cursor blinking at its normal rapid rate, and things will begin to work again.
it runs out of space ∞
Did you perform the ‘Fix loader 64MB limit’ and then the ‘resize root partition’ steps?
