Setup ∞
control-shift-fthen rename the file<video>.eng.srtdouble-clickto launch Subtitle Edit.- Subtitle Edit will complain with an error dialog. Click
[Ok]to dismiss it. -
At the bottom, click the waveform area. Subtitle Edit will process it.
Editing ∞

When adding an entry, an area will be created in the wavform area. You can resize and reposition these.

You are limited by the size of the nearby clips.
Subtitle entries are red ∞
Entries are flagged red if Subtitle Edit thinks there is not enough time for the viewer to read your text. You can edit your preferences to set this time. Options > Settings > General and the various Rule entries on the left.
This is only a warning and you can ignore it.
Use less text, or break up your text into multiple subtitle entries.
