It was an interesting struggle to get my Antec Sonata case and my ASUS K8N motherboard to connect together.

Intro ∞

The audio panel on the front of the Antec Sonata has a cable which reaches to the back of the ASUS K8N. The connectors from the case are labelled, as are the connectors to the motherboard. However, the labelling is not the same!

I did have to play around a little bit, but I confirmed these settings using Skype and the “echo123” robot. Both the audio out and microphone in on the front of the case work fine.

When headphones are plugged into the front of the case, the audio out from the back is not muted. I don’t know if both microphone sources (the front and rear) can work simultaneously. They probably do.

While playing, I also learned that my video card ^[ 1 ]ASUS Radeon 9600 XT/TVD has been running fanless for quite some time. =/ But on the plus side.. my system works quite happily and the card doesn’t get hot.

I also connected an audio-CD connector to my DVD. I had to think a bit to come up with one of those old-fashioned “audio CDs” but I got one and things tested just fine. Although my standard audio-CD playing software didn’t work, kaffeine did.

Antec Sonata ∞

This is the original first-release case.

There is a block of connectors as well as individual connectors. Since the block didn’t match up, I had to use the individual connectors. They are labelled:

• FPOUT-R
• FPOUT-L
• MIC
• RET-R
• RET-L
• MIC BIAS

• AUD GND
