2016-03-26 - 14.04.4 LTS ∞
(no comments noted)
I think this was the last version I had been using. At any rate, it was up-to-date on 2016-03-26.
2015-05-03 - 14.04.2 LTS ∞

2014-05-15 - "0.10" ∞
For some reason this section was placed between "2011-07-23" and "2011-07-23 through 2011-08-12", and its version number was listed as "0.10" ..
I don't even remember having to do anything to get my Blue Yeti working. This must have been resolved upstream some time ago.
In order to get my Yeti working as the only sound device, I edited /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and I commented-out everything from here and below:
Load saa7134-alsa instead of saa7134 (which gets dragged in by it anyway)
2013-12-06 - 13.10 ∞
- boots into the text installer..
- even this text mode asked about resizing a partition..
- but this is working..
- it didn't ask me, and just went ahead with update downloads
-
select and install software failed
- The USB stick I used
ddto create is reported as being kinda-broken by gparted, missing its fake DOS partitioning. - Nuked the drive and partitioned with the installer.
- Now my drive is fragmented as hell according to cfdisk, but fuck it.. as long as I can boot up again.
-
gparted doesn't seem to know about fragmentation. Sigh.
lubuntu-13.10-alternate-amd64 ∞
- I didn't md5sum the iso
- Check disk for defects won't work with a liveusb
-
After the keyboard layout it just goes blank with no disk activity..
lubuntu-13.10-desktop-amd64 ∞
I needed to nomodeset to boot up.
- Free software mode is a disaster! bad resolution
- It kept failing on the partition selection, claiming attempts to resize fails.. but i was not attempting resizes!
- I can press tab to add to the commandline manually
vga=32dworked, but the textmode font was horrific-
can't get the liveusb to use the right resolution.. giving up
other 13.10 notes ∞
- Has a horrific install bug. Its partitioner is completely fucked.
-
Need to permanently
nomodesetgrub?- hold control while booting up to get to the grub screen
- noacpi
- boot normally, and install the proprietary nvidia drivers.
-
bad resolution, installed nvidia-current. This fixes the resolution, but fucks up the textmode resolution. I had to edit grub, but that didn't work. Fuck you, grub.
gfxpayload=1920x1080x32before the linux command.
2011-12-12 - (version not recorded) ∞
success
I re-wrote the USB stick, and Lubuntu booted as expected.
Installed and works fine.
- Beautiful as always
-
ooh, the Windows button opens the menu, W-r launches the run prompt, but also opens the menu.
- TODO: I wonder if there's a command to close the menu, so that I could have W-r do that, as a simple fix.
- Minecraft works just fine.
- Froze up when trying to halt.
- The proprietary video frivers have "post-release updates" which fail. The other one works though.
- For some fucked up reason, Minecraft only works with the original vanilla video drivers but not the proprietary ones which I need for WoW to work. So I ended up making a LiveUSB and booting off of that for Minecraft. Sigh. =/
-
Why in the FUCK is apache running?!
- Why and HOW was it continuing to run even after being uninstalled!! I had to rename it.
-
TODO: remove ntp, bluetooth, winbind?
2011-07-23 - 10.10 ∞
2011-07-23 through 2011-08-12
Part of my 2011-08-12 Linux testing nightmare.
- Just a brief attempt, but the copy to USB didn't work. Fuck it.
-
Oh hey, UNetbootin isn't smart enough to clear the drive before copying? I wonder if leftover files were messing things up for some of the more retarded distributions.

2011-07-07 - 10.10 ∞
- UNetbootin wasn't working under a lubuntu LiveCD i was using
- the cd I burned didn't boot..
-
fuck it, back to Unity Linux
2010-11-10 - 10.10 ∞
Part of my 2010-11-10 Linux testing nightmare.
- Impressed, for the most part. Issues with my headset, forced to use the mic on my webcam.
-
All the tools I need work. Missing gtk 1.2, so one critical application won't work. Bah. [update: a user out there provided it so I got it working!]
- The bootup menu offers a big list of languages.
- The bootup list has "Password" at the bottom-right. It gets chopped off and only shows "Passwor"
- The mouse points backwards!
-
Oh hey, it doesn't boot up with a window manager.
- This is annoying, since the installer could have been enlarged on my big screen.
- Holy fuck, finally an installer that does a background copy while the user is doing their config!
-
Eww, it has Chromium? Why in the fuck.. On an install CD? It should have midori.
- Looks like they are sucking the Google cock.
- After farting around, the mouse corrected itself. I'm not sure what I did.
- If they wanted to simplify the install boot versus the LiveCD, then they should have (1) removed the desktop and (2) removed the taskbar. Duh.
- Freaking slow install!
-
Removing all those extra languages takes forever!
- "The installation will finish soon".. my ASS.
- Holy fuck, it can switch between X and the console fast!
- Hires textmode, yay.
- Fugly bootloader, it auto-added Windows.
- Silly-fast boot! (and shutdown)
- Removing chromium asks to remove lubuntu-desktop which is supposedly a huge deal. Lolwut? Turns out not to be meaningful. Yep, they're being deceitful.
synapticis found under "Preference" in the menu. Huh?- The installer could show the commandline details. That was impressive. It turns out that synaptic can do this too!
-
Numlock is off by default in X.
- The numlock state carriers over between X and the console! Yay!
- Wtf, my Windows GRUB entry vanished later on. I had to re-add it.
-
Wow, they didn't bother having cp or rm ask for confirmation. That's harsh.
Some time has passed, and I was able to get all of my requirements working just fine. Missing gtk 1.2 is a minor issue. I'll have to pay someone to update the program I want to keep using.
\apt-get install asoundconf-gtk
You need to make sure asoundconf is active!
\speaker-test -c 2 \amixer
- Aww fuck, audio pops on a playing video, when I switch virtual desktops
-
aumixwon't fucking work. I can't get pyvol to work because/dev/mixerdoesn't exist. Fucking hell.
update-manager
- There's no way to change the default program I open a file with? Eww
-
Firefox-branding says:
This package ships the Firefox branding bits. If you remove this package your
user experience will become that of the abrowser.- However, removing it removes Firefox.
- You can launch a .deb from firefox, it opens the package installer. Yay!
-
Installed
gnome-mediato test my mic.- It gives me the program
audio-recorder.. trying to run that gives me "Your audio capture settings are invalid. Please correct them with the "Sound Preferences" under the System Preferences menu." but what is "System Preferences"? I had to installalacarteand run it to edit the menu and add it back.
- It gives me the program
\sudo \apt-get install gnome-alsamixer
.. everything seems to be ok.
uname -a

\sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa \sudo apt-get update \sudo apt-get install linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) \reboot
.. nope
-
I can't get my headphones to give audio on my back ports, only on my front!
Troubleshooting ∞
Re-adding Windows to the boot menu ∞
http://jdpatterson.blogspot.com/2010/10/lubuntu-install-removed-windows-boot.html (he typoed it "os-probe")
\sudo apt-get install os-prober \sudo os-prober \sudo update-grub
libgtk-1.2 ∞
libgtk-1.2 is very old and unmaintained software, and it has been removed from recent versions of Ubuntu and Debian. Read more here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=520441
Unfortunately, lots of old games and other apps still depend on it. If you must, install it with:
\sudo \apt-add-repository ppa:adamkoczur/gtk1.2 \sudo \apt-get update \sudo \apt-get install libgtk-1.2
This wouldn't work when I tried it quickly for one app. I'll deal with this later.
Editing the menu ∞
alacarte now gives me:

Oh, it needs to be run as root.
