• Shroud of Turin

  • It looks like some non-controversial results were made out to be controversial. It also looks like it was either replaced and re-faked, and/or intentionally manipulated to leave the question “unanswered”..
  • In the winter of 2002, the Shroud was subjected to an aggressive restoration which shocked the worldwide community of Shroud researchers and was condemned by most. Authorized by the Archbishop of Turin as a beneficial conservation measure, this operation was based on the claim that the charred material around the burn holes was causing continuing oxidation which would eventually threaten the image. It has been labeled unnecessary surgery that destroyed scientific data, removed the repairs done in 1534 that were part of the Shroud’s heritage, and squandered opportunities for sophisticated research.

• The donation of Constantine

  • Constantine died in the 3rd century. In the 9th century, references to the donation of Constantine suddenly appeared in Christian writing. In it, Constantine wills to his contemporary Pole Sylvester I the entire western Roman empire including Rome. It says the gift was partly a gift for Sylvester’s “cure” of Constantin’s leprosy.
  • By the 11th century, this was being regularly referred-to, to justify their claims to be secular rulers of central Italy.
  • Through the middle ages, this falsehood was thought to be true.
  • Lorenzo of Valla was one of the polymaths of the Italian renaissance. He claimed that the apostle’s creed, on grammatical grounds, could not have actually been written by the 12 apostles. He was declared a heretic. Handy.
