A media player using a MPlayer backend.

MPlayer Qtopia GUI
2006-06-18 – v0.4.3c ∞
Seems to work ok. It could have some UI improvements just for polish.
Full-screen video ∞
The bare minimum is:
File > Preferences > Video > Enable smart crop (and uncheck all other video options)
View > Scale to screen
Most videos work just fine with these settings.
Exceptions:
-
One wmv file I tried didn’t play video, presumably because of a codec issue. The audio played fine. When trying ‘movie player’, I just got a blank screen.
-
The Black Eyed Peas – Pump It (mpeg) — will not play. The screen fades out, then there is a pause and it fades back in.
-
Deathstars – Cyanide (avi, 640×256 25fps xvid+mp3) plays poorly.
- Without double buffering it will have rectangles flying through it as it plays.
- With double buffering it has video/audio syncing issues. If frame-dropping is enabled then the dropping is too agressive. When overclocked, it will play better but not good enough. The system will probably hang afterwards though.
Notes ∞
using FFmpeg.
For an aspect 4:3 using msmpeg4v2 codec
320×240 or 352×264 with 128kbps mp3 audio
For an aspect 16:9 using msmpeg4v2 codec
352×198 with 128kbps mp3 audio
..
To rotate in landscape in mplayer : -vop rotate=1 or in mplayer.conf do vop rotate=1
To play a video at full screen in landscape mode from commad line you have to:
1. Create a file called fb.modes in /etc
this is the file’s body
mode "qvga" geometry 240 320 240 320 16 timings 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 endmode
from the command line you can now:
mplayer -really-quiet -framedrop -cache 512 -vo fbdev -fbmode qvga -vm -vop rotate=1 <film_name>
