The ability to wilfully manipulate body temperature.
This topic also covers other methods of "temperature management".
Use ∞
Aside from warmth, the skill of temperature biofeedback might aid many things and possibly mild forms of some eccentricities.
- Adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
-
- Maybe very mild and high-functioning.
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
- Allergies that effect behavior
- Anxiety
- Bipolar disorder
- Enuresis and Incopresis (bet wetting and soiling)
- Headaches
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Meditation
- Pain
- Relaxation
Headaches ∞
source not recorded:
A thermocouple was the first non-medication method shown to be highly effective in the elimination of migraine headaches. Breathing and visualization is also highly effective for many people.
As the migraine starts, pinpoint where the pain is (if it's just general pain in your head, that's fine too). Think about what the pain looks like, and then lie down (or you can stand up or do it while walking or whatever as well, but it's easier lying down).
Start breathing deeply and relax your entire body. Focus on breathing "through" your head, or wherever the pain is. Imagine that your deep breaths, instead of going in through your nose and out through your mouth, are rushing in through your head, getting filtered through your skull and into your body. When you breathe out, imagine the pain leaving through your head, and the good stuff staying inside.
I've used this on migraines, sprained ankles, massaging other people, the list goes on. Also works for making your hands "heavy" for hitting people. The more you do it, the less time it takes, until (I think) you simply initiate heavy hands with a thought or as a reaction.
The way this alleviates a headache is through the biological mechanism known as "reciprical inhibition." Sending heat into your hands is only possible when you're relaxed enough to do so. This type of relaxation is incompatible with migraine headaches. So... heat into the hands = no migraine!
Sleep ∞
source not recorded:
Breathing and visualizing to send heat into the feet is an old Japanese method of rapidly falling asleep. Koichi Tohei [ 1 ] See also /tag/koichi-tohei claimed that, through using the technique, he could fall asleep in as little as two minutes.
The heat to the feet thing works because you are pulling this energy/heat from the head through the entire length of the body, relaxing everything in between.

Relaxation ∞
When you get cold you shiver, things get numb, things hurt, you get tense and so on.
Relaxing is a method of freeing the body to do what it must to warm itself. It unblocks your insides and lets warmth flow freely through. One can allow the body to shiver a bit before one relaxes that too.
Breathing and visualization ∞
As you inhale, imagine that you are inhaling warmth. During your inhale, move this warmth to where you want it, such as to the hands or feet.
For total-body, imagine your lungs acting like bellows stoking the fire of your body.
In Kuntao.. ∞
(Kuntao)
Stand like an old man -- shoulders rounded, belly out, butt in, knees bent. Swing your arms loosely back and forth while imagining your energy flowing out of your hands like a hose, spraying the ground around you. This actually works extremely well when you are outside in the bitter cold and your extremities are freezing.
Measuring your temperature ∞
Proof that one is increasing body-temperature and not deluding onesself can be obtained a number of ways.
-
A Partner
- An outside party is an easy way to check for significant temperature-changes. Check the temperature before and after a short time of concentrating.
- A thermocouple on the fingertip.
-
A fever strip
- A small strip of treated plastic that turns colours when put on the forehead. Put the strip in your hand, meditate[doesn't exist] and move heat to that palm. Check the colour. In less time than you think you can change the color of the strip when placed on any part of your body.
