I bumped into Carrier when I learned that it was a fork from Pidgin. They cited a feature-change that was negative and had no option to revert to original expected functionality. See ticket 4986 on Pidgin's bug tracker. Go ahead and read it, I dare you. At any rate, I truly admire Carrier's reasoning for forking.
