In early 2013, Ubuntu, Red Hat (Fedora), Arch Linux and anything GNOME-related fell from my grace due to fundamental technology (e.g. systemd) or political issues (being evil).
I’ve been looking at some other distributions, particularly Gentoo-derived distributions.. but not Gentoo itself, since it’s insane. Funtoo and Sabayon came up, and since Funtoo requires more free drive space than I have at the moment I checked out Sabayon.
2016-04-18 – Yeah, well.. since Gentoo now uses systemd, all it’s sub-distributions will be dragged into the pit with it.

I’ve been using it for a little while now, and I’m generally pleased, even though I had to gut a lot of things.
I can’t stand Xfce and switched back to Openbox, although I’m not entirely sure how to get rid of Xfce more thoroughly.
Rolling updates work very well now.
Rigo, the package manager GUI, needs some serious work. I do like how a lot of it flows, but it’s really hard for me to vaguely search for software which I don’t have a name for. Finding a PDF viewer was an adventure..

The text installer obliterated my HDD.
- Apparently this isn’t an isolated issue, the installer isn’t clear.
- Yes I had backups, but I did lose some significant working notes.
-
The GUI install sometimes crashes while copying files.
- I did check the ISO and liveUSB for errors, none were found.
Updating the system takes fucking forever.
The server edition was good, but regular (xfce) has a boring low-res console..
It took me some time to figure out how the encryption works. It’s annoying.
The installer’s suggested volume sizes are insane.
Resizing is bloody fucking slow. (resize2fs --progress)
Resizing a volume is one step, resizing the actual filesystem is another step..
Fuck LVM, it’s ridiculously complex!
I can manually set up an encrypted ext volume..
