“Not bad”, but not that great either. Quite interesting gameplay. Has definite potential.
The progression of the game is ponderous. The visuals are terrible, the gameplay could be a lot worse. I suspect that there is some fundamentally bad mojo with the game engine.. the interface is “okay”.. all in all it’s not a keeper.

There’s a Summoner 2 .. and the gameplay is totally different.

Quick spell casting to save your life (tested) ∞
When you cast spells, there is an initial charge time before the spell is cast. While you wait for the charge to finish and the spell to take effect, you could be getting killed, and losing control of that summon and adding another enemy to the list.
If, during the charge animation, you go into one of the game’s menus such as ‘Skills’ or ‘Inventory’, a glitch in the game cancels out any charge times and instantly casts the spell.
This comes in handy when you NEED to heal instantly. Cast heal on the person, press Triangle, click on inventory, and you hear the heal spell come out instantly. Try a barrage of fire arrows and you will kill just about any boss.
Easy Exp. for Joseph and Flece ∞
When you’ve just finished escorting Adeslani (for the ”Adeslani’s Brother Quest) to the point where she says, ”We Made it!” talk to her. When you get the option to reply to her, choose ”We Made it?”, then instead of pressing X to continue, press triangle to quit the conversation. You still get the 4000XP for Joseph and Flece, and you can repeat this as many times as you want!
Infinite Chain ∞
As you probably know, as you use chain attacks they start to use increasing amounts of AP. Well, if you get up to ”chain 4” and above, they start to get costly (-2 AP, -3 AP each). When this happens, you can hit R2, then L2 (or vice versa) really fast to switch to another character and then back to the one you are controlling. This will reset your chain number to 1, but your character will not pause in his attack.

Cool game. Unfortunately once I got to the first city I was absolutely overwhelmed. The city is so disgustingly hugely huge that I can’t remember where I came from by the time I get to the opposite side of a sub-area. Then there are the load times when switching between area sections.
Why can’t I just pick where I want to go on an overview map? How come area exits aren’t labelled? How come I can’t just use some “get me the hell out of here!” option to leave the city?
Then I got into the quests. Some I could choose, and some were thrust upon me. I might be able to deal with this concept, with my completely absent memory, if the quest log were useful. I actually struggled to complete a quest, but I had to walk around the entire city to figure out where I was supposed to go to get back to complete the quest. Then the quest mutated a bit, but my log DID NOT CHANGE. This means that I’d have to remember the additional side-quest and also remember how to get back to that one guy in one corner of one section of that huge city. That’s not going to happen.
So the game has some decent gameplay. I like the combat stuff. It’s funny that enemies are so nearsighted. All in all it’s a good game. I don’t think I could survive playing it for all that long because of the hugeness of the city. I presume there is more than one city, since quests talk about other places. I think this hugeness would melt my brain.
This game makes me miss nintendo games. It’s fair. Really solidly fair. However, nobody who played it was listened to by the development team and apparently the game was just barely good enough that nobody was violent after having played it.
I just feel a bit overwhelmed and drained having played the game for a bit.
It could have been good. Never great, but possibly good. It’s not quite there as it stands though.
- To avoid dispells, get a decent dodge and then cast spells when you dodge. Or cast fireball, since it seems to be harder to dispell.
- The load time is a horror.
- better save your game before you use your level points for spells.. there’s no way to know what the next set of spells will be or what they’ll be like. =/
- nuke one enemy, sit and regenerate. nuke the next enemy, sit and regenerate. =/
- kiting is possible, since the enemy is so stupid they’ll stop chasing quite quickly. Beware of enemies who can slow you, or barbarians/etc who seem to be able to run.
- use the ‘silence’ ability against spellcasters.. it’s essential.
- It’s so annoying that you can accidentally meteor yourself.. it’s not particularly handy to have the menu button and select buttons be the same, especially for something so dangerous. Why not disallow the spell if you’re the only valid target? DUH. =/
- The camera is SO DAMNED STUPID. I want to have manual control and only manual control. This camera, like in all other games, just gets in the way.. it stares at the ground, at objects.. not where I want. It automatically makes itself annoying when I’m in a fight, when I’m kiting, etc.. grr.
- The graphics are so bad that you have to stand there and watch for the wiggling blocks to search for mobs.
- The city view is horrid. You can only see your back and the ground, even when zoomed out.
- Moving through the cities is TERRIBLE.. you have no clue where anything or anyone is, and you wander and wander.. the load times are horrific.. I should just be able to pick a person/whatever and go there. Hell, just like an autosolving solitaire when you’re near the end, why not just give the quests to people, and transport them to wherever they need to go instead of boring the player to fucking death. Man.
- You are punished by talking to people. There’s lag as you try to figure out how to walk up to them, and the camera changes angles to be more inconvenient, and then you have some boring conversation which you never write down to use later and then you had a bit as you stop talking to them. Sigh.
-
Quests would be useful if they told you where the hell the people are. “Go back to the smith and give him this sword” .. but in what universe? I can never find a person on purpose..
The progression of the game is ponderous. The visuals are terrible, the gameplay could be a lot worse. I suspect that there is some fundamentally bad mojo with the game engine.. the interface is “okay”.. all in all it’s not a keeper.
