A team investigates the killing of genetics researchers by their secret laboratory's artificial intelligence, learning it had a good reason to do so.
Quite good, even after its era. It does not show much age except for one monster. This movie headed the resurrection of the zombie movie sub-genre.
-
Set in the Resident Evil universe, it is specifically a prequel to the story of Resident Evil - (1996 game)
TODO - To watch with commentary and all the bonus material.

Notes are for my Deluxe Edition DVD.

0:30 -- Reading and narration:
At the beginning of the twenty-first century,
the Umbrella Corporation had become the largest
commercial entity in the United States.9 out of every 10 homes contain its products.
Its political and financial influence is felt everywhere.
In public, it is the world's leading supplier of:
Computer technology
Medical products
HealthcareUnknown even to its own employees, its massive
profits are generated by:Military technology
Genetic experimentation
Viral weaponry - 1:30 -- Great sound.
- 6:45 -- Halomethane fire extinguishing.
-
8:30 -- Can't be so cruel to a woman.
- Oh whoops, establishing an evil evil robot.
-
8:45 -- Good lord.
- They did not need assumed-nudity to get my attention.
- 10:45 -- Left-handed.
- 14:15 -- The cop is certainly shouting over the music.
- 27:45 -- Dining Hall B
- 30:45 -- Why is he being so careful? Why isn't he using a flashlight? They had a flare earlier.
- 32:45 -- It's that guy's only line.
- 34:30 -- Where are the rest of them? I think I lost track of things.
- 35:00 -- I'm pretty sure there would be more blood. Also that the EMP would be entirely destroyed by lasers, or was it nearer the door?
- 37:00 -- Oh, there they are.
- 39:45 -- It's been established there are some pretty awful nerve agents, so maybe she was dosed with something nasty.
- 40:15 -- No, he shot her twice and she was still standing. That was impressive enough. Her shots were too close to his for anyone to tell if she was still standing after his three.
- 42:15 -- How would a military man have a revolver?
- 45:45 -- I see those zombies outside of the elevator aren't acting like those from within it.
- 46:00 -- .. and now this movie shows its age.
- 49:30 -- Wouldn't it be useful to establish that the chemicals he was knocked into somehow retarded his ability to get up?
- 53:30 -- Wouldn't it be useful to establish that head trauma matters?
- 58:00 -- No, hair and fingernails do not continue to grow. The skin pulls tighter.
- 58:45 -- It's annoying to hear of these things so far after the fact. The characters were acting as though they were much safer than they should have assumed of themselves.
- 60:00 -- Shouldn't they be treating the bitten-one differently?
- 1:17:45 -- 20 minutes is how much time is left for the movie. Very well done.
- 1:20:00 -- So the guy locked them in, and used a bullet on the lock that he said he'd hate to waste, and didn't just use the handle like they just did.
- 1:20:30 -- She doesn't know the code.
-
1:23:15 -- I wonder if that scratch matters.
- 1:27:30 -- Oh.
- 1:24:30 -- That tongue around her leg was awful.
-
1:24:30 -- Where was almost-dead-girl throughout all of this?
- 1:25:30 -- Oh.
- 1:26:30 -- There was a spot on the left of her forehead, which is now gone.
- 1:30:30 -- See also The Fifth Element - (1997 movie)
- 1:31:30 -- As if a swipe-lock could be opened that way.
-
1:39:20 -- Small quote easter egg.
The sound turned out to be quite overdone.
One female and three female-zombies were killed in this movie.

There is no trailer .. on a deluxe edition disk? Hmm, I see a "preview" of it. Hrm. =/
Premise:
- Deadly viruses are housed in glass jars. I suppose that one was made to be easily-broken.
- Ventilation in a very well-funded research facility freely allows viral transmission.
-
People don't know the difference between a fire drill and a full-scale outbreak-quarantine.
Notes:
- 7:50 ~ That woman thinks she can fit through the elevator hole? Not likely.. women have those hip things I've read about.
- 9:00 ~ Ok, let's point out something obvious. If you black out and fall to stone, you're going to hit your head. That tends to hurt a lot. Why doesn't she at least touch her head in pain in some kind of passing manner?
- 53:00 ~ The volume of his voice is so damned low in comparison to the rest of the movie. Bad audio.. bad.
- 55:45 - And suddenly the volume is WAY TOO LOUD. Sigh
- 1:21:30 - Nice little video game briefcase-closing. Is that a Doom sound?
- 1:24:20 - Umm, wouldn't that cut in his shoulder be bleeding?
- 1:24:30 - Oh, he doesn't seem very concerned about his shoulder.
- 1:26:28 - Small hole in the front, and nothing comes out the back of her head? Sigh.
- 1:26:40 - I wonder if the whole being fried by the third rail was re-used in Hellboy - (2004 movie) as an homage or something..
- 1:28:15 - Why would she fall down like that?
- 1:29:00 - Where did all her ninja skillz go? They don't even show a needle being poked into her, or her being knocked out or anything..
- 1:30:00 - Remember, when you sell out, sell out hard. Go for that second movie in the series. You go for it like a fat kid on a marshmallow, you greedy fwcking poor-writing bastards.
- 1:32:10 - Yep, because an amazingly rich and powerful corporation can't invest in decent locks. Those were just pretend locks that they had made on the cheap because their most valuable assets don't really matter all that much, except to the plot. Please people.. pretend more better.
-
1:33:53 - Awful CGI building on the upper-right of the screen.

- Just a discussion and semi-version of it. It was a lame hollywood action-suggestion ending that would have tied into another flavour of 'part 2'.
