I can’t count the number of times I’ve updated/upgraded only to be kicked in the teeth by some smartass programmer’s bright idea for a feature.

It’s one thing to add bloat to a program, it’s another to force it down your users throat.

I really don’t mind having a featureful program.  Really, I don’t.  However, when I’m used to things working one way I don’t like having things change without my permission.

I also really hate when that happens and I can’t figure out how to change things back the way they were.

Linux logo - 'Tux'

What in the hell is with programmers and their completely unusable error messages?

I could at least respect “Error 0: I hate you.” or the slightly less insulting “Dude, I can’t handle that.”. A smart program would not only give a real response like “Unknown codec” but it would give a hint as to the name of the codec and maybe even where to go to get codecs or troubleshoot further.

Twitter has these follower-spammers.  Idiots who have a twitter account that advertises some junk or other.  They follow people to try to get them to follow them.  Pathetic.

I logged in to see if there was any kind of spam prevention, only to be given a notice that my email address was incorrect.

Well of course it is, I missed a character.  But I already corrected it after I signed up!  So I went to correct it again.  And again.  And again.  The change doesn’t stick.  Twitter is broken.

2009-05-10 update: It seems to have accepted my email address change now.

2015-05-10 update – I’ve been using some more complex stuff, which can be found around my shell-random/zsh github repository. See 3-interactive.sh and colours.sh

I’m pleased to announce that I’m the very first user to have ANSI colour in a zsh prompt.  Yep, the very first.  I must be, since there is no example to be found anywhere.  After a serious amount of searching and fist-shaking at vague documentation, I was able to hack it out myself.

My solution is still incomplete though.  Let’s walk through this nonsense..

I knew about Granular Linux only through Unity Linux.  It ended up being a recommendation as a base system from which I could compile various window managers[doesn’t exist] for testing.  Well, after having exhausted so many other distributions lately, I decided to give it a shot.  Since I had been so dismissive of my earlier efforts, I decided to spend more time with this one.

  • 2014-08-02 – It’s gone.
  • Was to have switched to Unity Linux, but I don’t think it did.
