whitehouse.org has been permanently archived. Curious. I wonder if they were kidnapped and tortured as terrorists.

The first glance is that this isn’t a real project because it doesn’t have a real website. But then again, it doesn’t have a stable release yet, so I don’t mind at all.
Overall it’s decent, but it lacks a couple of fundamentals which would prevent my using it as an everyday browser. The fact that it is better with Flash really gives it a niche use.
Tested 2009-08-07 on Unity Linux 0.99-alpha1.

lavabit.com
Lavabit was a secure email provider.
I had used it for years, but it shut itself down in the early parts of the Edward Snowden PRISM-leak affair.

- It would later be resurrected as a paid service.
2009-07-24 update: it works again
I wanted to report an issue with zsh, but I can’t.
The problem is that they’ve got harsh blocking rules which prevent emails from any @gmail.com account. I went through a lot of trouble to research other email accounts and to sign up for one only to learn that @gmx.com email addresses are also blocked. An old @myrealbox.com account is also blocked.

Seriously people, figure it out and make it work.

The problem with developers is they fly off onto wild tangents without any consideration for usability.
I appreciate AJAX. I really do. The reason websites like YouTube are required to use this technique is to save on bandwidth costs.
The problem is that a site is totally unusable. Nomatter how pretty developers make their site, if it uses AJAX it will suck.
I can’t actually use the YouTube messaging system. Firefox is completely useless.
Whatever has been done with Firefox over the last many years has only made it progressively more inconsistent.
Sometimes it runs really well, and other times it’s REALLY bad.

I always find it curious there is a website owned by a browser manufacturer which happens to not work with another browser (like with the GMail contacts list).
When using the YouTube quick list, and autoplaying through it, scrolling up to see previous items in the right-hand mini quicklist doesn’t generally work. Scrolling all the way down through 100 videos is a terrible idea, and Firefox’s classic 100% CPU issue comes back.

I cleaned up the libraries and some of the code, and I uploaded the basics from 0.4.6.
I have a significant todo list, and there are several features that I want/need to implement.. such as templating, section editing, moving pages, creating new pages, automatic linking, code syntax highlighting, page source viewing, selectable stylesheets and more.
Again, this was a hobby project so that I can push my limits and figure out what I can do. I’ll be keeping on this, since I’m migrating my web presence over to this engine. This’ll be a fun ride.
Far-future stuff may include a plugin structure, per-page micro mailing lists for comments, blogging and anything else I can get my hands on while still making every feature an option and also very configurable.
Getting a phone number with voicemail and be able to make and receive local calls.
