To “port” is to bring things over from elsewhere. They will become either new pages or major updates. Small pages and minor updates are not noted.

  • Ported articles are given a timestamp of 00:00.
  • The dates from the oldest articles (2005 or so) are likely wrong, as they were ported from a still-older content management system.

    • Just as this “five things” process exists, I had an earlier series of notes tracking a still-earlier porting process. In due time, I’ll go through that list and correct dates as best I can.

I tested version 1 and 2 of this. Version 2 shows promise but can’t use external files.

  • Abandoned – Not updated in three years and has outstanding bugs.

Nice and simple.

  • Mostly-Sandboxed

    • Stores data externally. Might be able to communicate to-and-from other apps, but doesn’t appear to bother.
  • Location optional

    • For its compass.
  • WiFi required

    • To sync data and provide your answers.

A simple mapping program which can optionally track your position ongoing, to let you easily follow breadcrumbs back to your start (like a parked car).

I used it for its compass.

  • Sandboxed; does not use/share data with other apps.
  • Location optional

    • Used for its main position tracking feature.
    • Usable disabled just as a simple map app.
    • Used for a compass.
  • WiFi optional

    • Required to downloading offline data. Zoom in and out in various important places to make sure it works.
    • Can be disabled once your data

  • Allows you to disable to fingerprint reader on the Lock Screen without deleting all of your fingerprints.

  • Shows up as “Additional Security Settings”
