A PDF reader. I believe this was a free edition, but I’m not sure if it was restricted in any way. I’m pretty sure this was never open source.

I couldn’t get it working, but didn’t try very hard.

  • Abandoned? I can’t see anything directly Linux-related any longer.

One of the more popular window managers.

I tried it a long time ago. Tested very briefly. Strongly dislike because of speed issues. Didn’t test for long enough to learn about the style of applications etc. I’ve developed a bias against Gnome in preference for KDE for reasons I can’t articulate. Gnome is kinda pretty, but KDE keeps my attention.

  • Gnome 2 was forked and continued by a new team as MATE.

I had originally fallen in love with Ruby with the hopes of being able to use it on 16-bit DOS computers, but didn’t turn out to be possible. Since then I had stuck with it to tinker around quite a lot. But it turns out that a vast amount more programs are written in Python. Since my experiences with Ruby GUI toolkits were just horrifying, and all the Python GUI stuff I’ve seen is awesome, I think I’ll check things out.

I didn’t end up looking into Python much, but I have a bunch of notes.
