A murderer is saved from death only to be used in an experiment to explore his ancestry.

It’s an awkward combination of slowness with action. I suspect it could have been quite good, as it has the elements for it.. but the writing is shit in enough significant places that it can’t recover. It has an abysmal resolution, making the whole experience regrettable.

Defiance - (2013 TV show) image

In a world ruined by an alien invasion and terraforming, an ex-military turned scavenger and his alien adopted daughter take refuge in one of the few reasonable settlements: Defiance.

Although it has elements I like, it doesn’t have anything that actually grabs me. In a world where there is so much else of better quality, this is not recommended. There are a couple of characters who are really well acted, but again.. it’s not worth the trouble.

Almost Human - (2013 TV show) image

A buddy cop show with an android, set in the near future.

It’s great all around, especially the acting from the lead characters. Once the initial interest wears off, it lacks the good writing to give it either an episodic groove or an overall story arc. It’s especially poor with an arc which could last it into another season, trivially-justifying its cancellation.

Recommended only for fans of “loose” science fiction who would be interested in the robot buddy cop angle. Watch one episode, then decide. Others can give it a pass, unless they like Karl Urban, who plays a cop played by Karl Urban.

When investigating unusual crimes, a United States Federal Bureau of Investigation agent is brought into a United States Department of Homeland Security task force that investigates such things.

It took a while to like it at all, but ultimately it was lacking an aggressively-pursued over-arching story arc. It was so damned episodic and boring. Also, the lead actor’s constant grimace is incredibly disturbing.

I gave this a good long shot, and by the half-way point of season two, I just had to abandon it.

A series of unrelated voiceless-shorts, sort of sometimes stitched together with the theme of robots.

Fairly terrible. It comes across as a set of student efforts. I wouldn’t have been impressed even then.

Lost in space, a member of a misfit band of space-mercenaries is found by his father.

Another boring semi-superhero movie. I expect this will be mildly entertaining for people who really liked the earlier one.
