Requirements

  • Complete encryption.

    • Since ISPs are increasingly becoming pawns for the entertainment industry’s hate-on for BitTorrent. That’s like blaming a car company for vehicular manslaughters.
  • Select individual files to download.
  • Set/modify a list of trackers.
  • Balance between multiple torrents.
  • Mechanisms to stop seeding under certain conditions (ratio/time)
  • Start on bootup (unattended recovery on power loss)

    • I don’t actually need interaction at the cli, a GUI is fine.

No I don’t actually need remote access, since I can ssh or remote desktop into it.

Blocklist

TODO – I have an old one, list services etc.

  • getBlockLists.sh

    • Make one large blocklist from the bluetack lists on iblocklist.com
    • john.bitsurge.net/public/biglist.p2p.gz
    • 2018-05-15 – Tested and works for Transmission.

2011-08-13

*unsolved* – My desire is to strip out UDP references so that BitTornado will work with those .torrent files.
After searching for a while, I have not been able to find anything that works for me. Boo.

BitTorrent Software

BitTorrent Editors

  • BEncode

    • Not sure what it is.. one guy says he uses it interactively with IPython
Which I won’t test:

Linux > http://www.palemoon.org/
http://www.palemoon.org/

A web browser which is essentially a fork of Firefox. Pale Moon keeps the simpler UI before the astonishingly terrible changes Firefox made.

A very good browser. Newer addons targeting the latest Firefox which are addicted to its new interface will not work with Pale Moon, since Pale Moon lacks that interface. Older addons or proper UI-agnostic addons will work fine.

A VoIP client.

Particularly awesome not just because of it’s spectacular quality, but because it’s free (client and server), and forces all of its users to fix their fucking microphone settings so everyone else doesn’t have to constantly fiddle with their per-user volume.

You can also run your own server “Murmur”.
