Extinction (2015) poster

It’s the post-zombie apocalypse, and somehow in permanent-winter a nine year old is a whiny first world prissy little bitch.

There is no plot. Even if, and especially if, you like zombie movies.. avoid. I liked it at first, but it soon drove me mad with confusion and annoyance. I had to stop before the half way mark.

Then There Was (2014) poster 1

There is a blackout and shit goes sideways.

It’s not bad, but I can see why people would give this 5/10. It’s a fair movie. It’s not compelling in the least, with characters I never really felt attached to. Maybe following multiple people worsens it.. cutting between them is jarring for me.

Police Academy (1984) poster

The bar for entry into the police force is lowered, and misfits enter the police academy.

Overall, this was worth a couple of laughs, but the sexism and racism need to be viewed too in-context for me to deal with it. This language/culture/whatever difference removes any chance of timelessness this movie might have had.

  • The Police Academy (franchise):

    • Police Academy 2 – Their First Assignment
    • Police Academy 3 – Back in Training
    • Police Academy 4 – Citizens on Patrol
    • Police Academy 5 – Assignment Miami Beach
    • Police Academy 6 – City Under Siege
    • Police Academy 7 – Mission to Moscow

I didn’t get very far in before I threw my hands up in disgust.

This immediately comes off as a Christian propaganda film. Girl has doubts in JEEEESUSSSSS, is uncomfortable with her friends being called bad, learns they are bad, they do bad things.. then JEEEESUSSSSS and she was totally wrong and the true way was always god and stuff and praise the lord and by the way did I say praise the lord because totes praise him.

I didn’t stick around to get into that last bit. Maybe it’s a dark crime comedy and stuff, but fucked if I’m going to continue watching.

  • The “just like a video game” thing should be fucking illegal to put into a movie.

Do not watch this, especially if you are a fan of the alien movie franchise.

Alien - Resurrection (1997) dvd image

The survivors of an alien attack struggle to stay alive aboard their research vessel, and learn its true purpose.

Perhaps because Alien 3 – (1992 movie) wasn’t as amazing as the first two, Alien: Resurrection wasn’t that impactful. I think it was a cop-out of an odd reboot.

  • Properly titled Alien: Resurrection

TODO – Crime and stuff.

After seeing Black Mass – (2015 movie) I’m reminded to put this into the growing catalogue. I’ll have to come back and re-watch it to add any real notes. Though I’ve seen this, it isn’t in my collection and I don’t expect to see it again any time soon.

Being ancient and good, this movie has become the standard for a “certain type” of movie. It got there first, so it set the bar. One which arguably hasn’t been reached by other movies.

The FBI make an alliance with the mob.

I’m not a particularly big fan of this type of movie, but this one was good. I don’t think it’s worth watching a second time. I got bored most of the way through.

  • Based on Black Mass (2006?) by Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill

Out of the Furnace (2013) poster

A maladjusted ex-soldier gets into fighting to repay his debts, and his now-ex-con working-class brother turns to vigilantism when the fighting goes bad.

Decent, but definitely not good enough to watch a second time. Not impactful in the least.
