was watir.com

A functional testing tool for automating browser-based tests of web applications. It drives the Internet Explorer browser the same way people do. It clicks links, fills in forms, presses buttons. It also checks results, such as whether expected text appears on the page.

I did some simple website testing with it.

EncFS provides an encrypted filesystem in user-space. It runs without any special permissions and uses the FUSE library module to provide the filesystem interface.

2016-12-28 – I have no memory of using this. Boy will it be awkward if I come across stuff encrypted with it.

Termin8 logo

Software >

was www.terminate.com

A modem/BBS terminal program.

One of the top contenders. It is truly frightening, and still very useful today. However, they missed out on some basic functionality and got too complex. Telix and Telemate are two other contenders. Telix, well I don’t know why.. I still use Telemate to this day.. it kicks the pants out of terminate for most of the major simplicity and functionality. Too bad none of them are in development anymore. Hrmph.

  • Competed with Telemate as a category-killer.
  • Abandoned – Between 2021-09-22 and 2021-11-14 the domain expired.

    • The website is down
    • the source code archive as of 202201280 shows the last activity at 2021-02-09. It was a small change and the update previous to that was 2018-10-05.
    • The mailing list archive doesn’t tell me enough because it’s an old snapshot.

A remote-control tool that can be used without firewall configuration. Port scanner and Trace Route, drag&drop files, get system passwords, Power-down or Wake-Up remote PCs.

By far the most impressive piece of software I’ve ever used. It’s tiny and does the impossible. But it made enemies.

  • 2009 – Abandoned
  • It was said to be coming out for OS X, but never did.

Telnet/MUD client.

Alpha. Very visually appealing. Languages: Perl, Python, (Ruby “soon”, though they seem apathetic), possibly JavaScript later.
