A top-down shooter with superpowers.

An awkward and unforgiving game that’s zoomed in too far to be fun.

A combined first-person shooter and tower-defense game.

Seems pretty cute, but I hate tower defense games which have multiple entrances.

A side-scroller puzzle game.

I played around with it a bit. It’s fair. It’s overwhelmingly unforgiving and gets complicated.

Build and expand a space-faring race who learns they are not alone in the universe.

Master of Orion – (1993 game) but with updated graphics and a confusing interface. I expect would have loved this in the past, but now it’s just awkward. I’ll still tag this as ‘liked’, as it’s pretty good. It’s very hard in the eyes. Take a lot of breaks.

Extremely stupidly hard.. and confusing. I’m shelving it. I only paid $12 USD for it, so it’s not a big loss.. still, I wish the UI was better and the tutorial was better and the gameplay was better..

Laser things, move things, push things and find your way through semi-puzzle stuff.

With an art style (and opening sequences) reminiscent of Borderlands – (2009 game) and gameplay reminiscent of Okami – (2006 game), this game has a very strong initial impression on me.

Not open-world, and definitely “on rails”, but it does give a lot of power to the user as to how to fart around to progress.

While overall good, the controls are wonky and cliffs are obnoxious. There should be no falling off mechanic and the game should instead dangle the player for a moment and never let them fall.

  • Properly titled Tiny & Big: Grandpa’s Leftovers

A space simulator fps thingy.

While it looked quite good at a glance, when actually trying it it fell flat. When a game cannot lean on cutting-edge technology, it has to have solid gameplay. It didn’t feel good at all to me. I guess No Man’s Sky – (2016 game) spoiled me.

A multiplayer, text, third-person shooter originally made for DOS, but I know it from Novell Netware.

I had a hell of a lot of fun with it. Perhaps it’s nostalgia which makes me stay so fond of it, but I think the fundamental gameplay still holds up today. I could easily imagine a great updated version of this but I have and still do see this same gameplay in all sorts of other top-down games.
