A small research vessel is knocked down by a meteor shower, triggering a panicked military response and causing hundreds of civilian casualties.

An endearing and distracting movie. Recommended, even though the dubbing is exaggerated and loud.

A drug reveals an alien world.

It has undertones which could make it very disturbing, however it is half-tainted by and half-infused with comedy. With a unique universe and being extremely watchable, this is definitely memorable and enjoyable.

I’ve heard it described as Evil Dead II – (1987 movie) meets Naked Lunch – (1991 movie). I think it also has a bit of the spirit of They Live – (1988 movie). If you know and liked those films, you’ll like this one.

A must-watch.

New technology allows a vehicle to pass through solid matter, but something else is brought through.

This is a must-watch movie, not for its story and plot as-such, but for its feel. It has ideas which really stick. I think Buckaroo Banzai might be particularly cool for young boys.

  • Trailer
  • Properly titled The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension

An everyday drama where Vampires and Zombies live together with Humans.

While it’s watchable, it’s ultimately boring because it’s not my thing.

A rough and tough detective is begrudgingly partnered with the first detective of alien refugees, and they follow the trail of his previous partner’s death.

Does not stand the test of time at all. The cop-buddy thing has been done to death since then and probably soils a more recent re-watch of this movie.

An scout tracks the origin of Voyager 2, only to be attacked on the way down and forced to adapt to make it there with human methods.

A very well acted, 1980s budget but with a lot of locations and a great story. Truly recommended.

A crazy person joins an organization of crazy-chasers and for some reason there’s a widget that needs to be chased.

Not a comedy; not recommended.

TO GET – The director’s cut doesn’t have the opening spoiler narration.

A man, waking with no memories and thought to be a serial killer, flees his pursuers and not only learns he isn’t who they think he is, but they aren’t who they think they are either.

A fantastic movie.. at no point was I bored. To me, this one of the foundations of a particular movie style. It isn’t that it’s whatever kind of “neo-noir” but that it tells a tale about reality itself.

Aliens crash land on earth and vaguely assimilate.

It’s quaint, choke-full of stars and amusing in it’s era. I don’t know that I’d consider it particularly good these days because it leans all the way into an alien culture clash, but it’s nice.
