A new security chief is assigned to a mining colony, and discovers that there has been a rash of irrational suicides.
An investigative reporter, most recently working on criminal drug stories, gets a lead that takes him down a rabbit hole few knew existed.
A fair movie at best, which I can only recommend for people of the mindset with interest in the United States' government's involvement in Bad Things.
A struggling writer takes drugs, giving him incredible results with unforeseen consequences.
This is an uncomfortably-great movie. It's semi-horror in the sense of a tactile empathy the viewer has. I don't know that I'd consider this mandatory viewing, because it would strongly depend on the viewer. I don't think this would be a "love it or hate it" movie, because it's .. just odd. It's original, and that alone would make it mandatory viewing for some.
- Based on the book Naked Lunch (1959)
If you like this movie, definitely check out John Dies at the End - (2012 movie).
A money-desperate high school teacher and miscreant former-student enter the drug trade, which begins to consume them.
Breaking Bad is one of those uncomfortable-yet-riveting shows. While awesome for what it is, I don't generally recommend it.
I did watch it, and I'm mostly happy I did, but it doesn't leave a nice streak-free gloss on my memory. I guess that was the point.
The lawyer Saul got his own spinoff show, Better Call Saul (2015-)
A savant diagnostic specialist saves lives while struggling with his own problems.
This is absolutely mandatory viewing.
- a.k.a. House, M.D.
a.k.a. Dr. House
A drug reveals an alien world.
I've heard it described as The Evil Dead - (1981 movie) meets Naked Lunch - (1991 movie). I think it also has a bit of the spirit of They Live - (1988 movie). If you know and liked those films, you'll like this one.
If you like this movie, definitely check out They Live - (1988 movie).
I'll add notes when I re-watch this
In a world where genetics predetermines health, a man with congenital defects pursues his dream of becoming an astronaut.
This is, for me, an intensely nerve-wracking movie. I will definitely keep it in my collection, but I find re-watching difficult.
