Robot Chicken - Star Wars (2007) image

A standard Robot Chicken, but with various skits parodying the Star Wars franchise.

Have a half hour to waste? Give this a shot, but if you don’t like it within the first few minutes go do something better; Robot Chicken is hit-and-miss.

Though I only know him through Last Week Tonight, I love his personality and material.

Last Week Tonight is a political commentary Television show which posts some videos on YouTube. Some of its research and news material is quite impressive, and its comedic presentation makes it particularly entertaining.

He went completely fucking insane some time ago, and became part of the fake news / social justice propaganda network.

Patrice O'Neal photo

With a strong talent for ad-lib, inflammatory rhetoric and confrontation, Patrice O’Neal is (was) a hilariously wrong comedian. He is deceased.

Patrice is astoundingly hilarious, though all too often it’s because he’s so offensive. I’d like to say he’s speaking his mind, but it’s impossible to tell, because a comedian crafts a fictional personality to present comedic material, and his is fantastic. He comes off as refreshingly authentic.

He’s been a guest for a bunch of radio shows, and he is worth listening to if you can stomach the awful hosts.

With a tenancy to dive into relationship territory, Patrice neither ejects nor leaves a skid mark trying to land. Instead, he explodes like a meteor, throwing up debris and setting everything on fire. He does not hold back.

Police Academy (1984) poster

The bar for entry into the police force is lowered, and misfits enter the police academy.

Overall, this was worth a couple of laughs, but the sexism and racism need to be viewed too in-context for me to deal with it. This language/culture/whatever difference removes any chance of timelessness this movie might have had.

  • The Police Academy (franchise):

    • Police Academy 2 – Their First Assignment
    • Police Academy 3 – Back in Training
    • Police Academy 4 – Citizens on Patrol
    • Police Academy 5 – Assignment Miami Beach
    • Police Academy 6 – City Under Siege
    • Police Academy 7 – Mission to Moscow

Spaceballs (1987) poster

Primarily a parody the original Star Wars trilogy.

It technically holds up well, but there are references which wouldn’t make sense to a younger person. Bits and pieces feel old, but a surprising amount of it doesn’t. All in all, I can see why it was a cult classic, but it’s almost entirely boring to me. 1980s comedy has a specific flavour which is really simplistic and underwhelming out of context.

Recommended as a one-off watch for those who have seen and appreciated other bubblegum 1980s comedies. Otherwise, pass on this.

A failure artist finds new muse when his prize mannequin creation comes to life.

A fun and imaginative movie. Easy on the brain. It’s accessible to people who don’t like or want to see a “heavy” romance movie.

Facing hard times, The Ghostbusters are called back into action when the city’s mood dips deep into anger.

Definitely not as good as Ghostbusters – (1984 movie), but an adequate film nonetheless.

  • Properly titled Ghostbusters II.

Stephen-Fry - More Fool Me (2014) cover 2

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4701426/

This is Stephen speaking on stage and then reading from his book, and not (really) a standup routine.

I like him, and this was enjoyable but not recommended unless a person already knows a bit of him. He is very personable and accessible to me.

How To Kill A Zombie (2014) poster

Entertainment > Movies >

An experiment intentionally infects a local town, and a survivalist and his son fight to escape the horde.

A playful zombie movie. One of the main characters is a terrible over-actor, but if you like this genre of movie, this one is pretty good.

A failure of a delivery boy is frozen for a thousand years, where in the year 3,000 he’s an interstellar delivery boy who continues to fail a lot.

A hilarious and intelligent show, with many subtleties. Watch an episode or three, and if you’re interested then you’ll enjoy the rest. Highly recommended.

I watched a couple of seasons before my interest petered out. I want to do other things with my time.
