A down-and-out traveler discovers a pair of sunglasses which let him see through the illusions aliens have been using to control mankind.

With overtones of the manipulation of the everyman, I would easily put this movie in the same class as Nineteen Eighty-Four. However, the otherwise weighty impact is cushioned by comedy, great characters and a great story. Though old, this movie stands the test of time. Easily considered satirical-horror, there’s much more to it.

This is, in a sense, a bubblegum movie that delivers a subtler message. It tickles the viewer’s cognitive dissonance. Some viewers will easily “get it”, and some will merely find it entertaining. I hope those between those two groups will be particularly intrigued.

Mandatory viewing.

Shortly after being passed, significant backlash had the law amended to allow a child’s parent or guardian to elect for artificial insemination. The Catholic church has since moderated its support for this new law.

The pope was unavailable for comment, but a vocal devotee was quoted as saying

This isn’t quite God’s will, but it’s will have to do for now.

A small shout-out to comedian Doug Stanhope.

While he’s been active for quite some time, I only recently discovered him.

He is an intelligent, strangely-articulate and entirely abrasive asshole of a comedian. I laughed out loud very loudly multiple times watching/listening to his work.

There are lots of torrents out there, and yes Doug is ok with you downloading his stuff. (See Joe Rogan’s podcast).

Some of his live stand-up is nowhere near as good as his professional performances. On the other hand, there can be a stiffness to the pro performances where they won’t compare to a really good live one. Below is what I’ve seen so far.
