Dutch Kills (2005) poster

Entertainment > Movies >

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2759066/

With his sister in trouble with the local semi-mob, a man works to pay off her debts but gets in too deep.

It’s generally slow and brooding, doesn’t get to the point and has an unsatisfying ending. Not recommended.

The Golden Cane Warrior (2014) image

The Golden Cane, the symbol and ultimate power of the House of the Golden Cane, is to be passed to one of the four students, but there is jealousy among them.

A very well-written and well-told story. It’s also refreshing to see something from a non-standard “martial arts movie country”. Definitely worth a watch for fans of the genre. It’s overall quality makes me recommend it even to those who don’t normally like movies like this. This is not a “kung fu flick”.

  • The martial arts in this movie is almost entirely with a staff.
  • The Golden Cane Warrior is entirely voiced in the Indonesian language, and has subtitles throughout.
  • Known as Pendekar Tongkat Emas in Indonesia.

When attacked, an idiot stoner learns he has training he never knew he had.

An unintellectual fluffy bubblegum action movie. Easy on the brain and good for the common man. Not a spy movie as such. Recommended for beers and popcorn with friends. Still worth a watch for others who can just barely tolerate such brain-candy.

Robot Chicken - Star Wars (2007) image

A standard Robot Chicken, but with various skits parodying the Star Wars franchise.

Have a half hour to waste? Give this a shot, but if you don’t like it within the first few minutes go do something better; Robot Chicken is hit-and-miss.

Salt (2010) poster 2

CIA agent Salt is accused by a walk-in Russian defector of being a Soviet spy.

This leverages actual Cold War issues into a reasonable plot and interesting action. Though I only vaguely liked it, because the general movie type isn’t my thing, I would recommend this for fans of action movies. This is not a spy movie, as such.

Fantastic Four (2015) poster

Five young scientists invent a technology to teleport to some other world, but there are terrible consequences.

An adequate movie. Recommended if you’re already into this class of movie. Apparently this superhero retardation is now an entire class of movie. God dammit this is some lazy bullshit.

  • Stylized as Fant4stic

    • No, really.
    • I’m not sure if this is actually done in print with text or only with that image/logo.

A woman with the powers of strength and PTSD is tormented by a former not-boyfriend and whose description spoils the show.

I watched this for a bit, and it’s slow and boring.

Pi (1998) poster

A man stares into the sun as a child, and develops superhuman powers of math, pattern recognition with a side order of paranoia etc.

I don’t think this will appeal to most people, since it deal with topics only the fringe of humanity have any comprehension of. I happen to like it quite a bit, for reasons I certainly never hinted at in the previous sentence.
