https://github.com/spiralofhope/_DevPad.GUI

An in-game text editor and addon authoring tool (Lua).

Keep notes with it, write Lua scripts, or prototype addon concepts in its trimmed down development environment. Organize your scripts into folders and share them with other _DevPad users. Scripts can run automatically on login like mini addons, and can call each other like libraries or dependencies.

An absolutely spectacular AddOn that I’m not sure I can live without.

TheGun icon

was http://www.movsd.com/thegun.htm

A notepad.exe replacement in 6,144 bytes.

Particularly notable because its configuration is done through an external program which directly modifies the THEGUN.EXE binary.

I tossed this in with my portable applications. It’s tiny, and I figure it’s one of those “just in case” sort of applications.

I just now learned that Karen Kenworthy, the author of a great number of excellent tools , is dead. All my heroes are dying.

Spoiler
I’d like to thank the outpouring of support for this great programmer and person. Though I did not know her myself, I feel strongly about this topic and am glad it has attracted readers.

Whenever you act as a consumer — use a piece of software, watch a video or read an article or just a comment — and it brightens your day or informs your life, please think about leaving even the smallest reply. These matter more than you may ever realize.

One moment of your writing will impact uncounted hours of a person’s future efforts. One minute of your time will brighten years for another. If all we have is kindness, maybe that’s the one thing that another might need.

If something matters to you, then you matter to it.

prcview.com (gone as of 2016-02-12, archive)

Command line utility allows automating common task like figuring out if particular process is running or killing a running process on scheduler. Has a GUI version.

I’ve never really used it, but it’s stayed in my toolkit because it’s under a megabyte.

  • Tested PrcView GUI 3.7.3.1, commandline 3.10.2.1, on 2014-04-24 on Windows 8.1, updated recently.
  • Tested PrcView GUI 5.2.15.1, commandline 3.11.1.1, on 2016-02-12 on Windows 10, updated recently.

allSnap logo

Like a good Linux window manager, allSnap allows Windows’ applications to snap to the main screen area or to one-another.

That is, when dragging or resizing a window, it will try to cling to a nearby window. This makes it easier and faster to adjust windows “just right”.

  • Works on 32 and 64-bit Windows.
  • Run both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions to cover all applications.
  • 2017-09-01 – 1.5.0 beta on Windows 10 64bit

    • It’s been working just fine for some time now.
    • The website is gone.
  • As of 2016-02-11, it hasn’t been updated since 2010-07. (source)
